Update on A-Rod Situation

Posted by Jake Fochetta in NY Yankees on 03 10th, 2010 | No Comments
News broke earlier today that Alex Rodriguez spent some of his hip rehab time with Canadian doctor Anthony Galea. Galea, who is currently facing drug charges and an investigation into his methods, told the Associated Press on Sunday that he treated Rodriguez during his rehab, but that he did not give him human growth hormone. This is a significant development for two reasons: 1) It confirms A-Rod did some of his rehab with a Canadian doctor who is notorious for using HGH. Galea’s assistant was arrested in September trying to move 20 vials of HGH across the U.S. Border. 2) The Yankees claim...

Going Bowling

Posted by Josh Stumpek in NY Yankees on 03 10th, 2010 | No Comments
Last week the Yankees held their second annual team outing.  The outing was held at an arcade and consisted of a tournament of a car racing video game, skee ball, and pop-a-shot. It seemed as if all of the Yankees had a great time at the team outing, but as Joe Girardi noted, some of the players had suggested other activities.  One of those activities was bowling; and it looks as if the Yankees have taken the advice of the players but they aren’t heading to a bowling alley.  The Yankees and the new Yankee Stadium will play host to a college football bowl game in 2010.  The game...

CC Sabathia 2010 Projection

Posted by Tyler Lakin in NY Yankees on 03 10th, 2010 | No Comments
The starting pitching for the Yankees is perhaps the strongest in the league. In the years leading up to last season’s championship run, the problem was always the pitching. Whether it was injuries, or just lack of talent, the offense was never the problem. One of last year’s additions was obviously key to the team’s success. CC Sabathia was a force to be reckoned with every 5 games. Teams would see the big chunk of man that Carsten Charles is and start shaking in their boots. When a 6’7, 290 pound man is the one throwing the baseball at you, it’s only natural to have at least some...

Edwar Ramirez Traded to Texas Rangers for Cash Considerations

Posted by Tyler Lakin in MLB, NY Yankees on 03 9th, 2010 | No Comments
Edwar Ramirez has just been traded to the Texas Rangers for cash considerations. The Yankees bullpen was already very crowded, so this is an extremely low risk move. However, it also has relatively low reward. They’re getting cash back. They’re not getting a random prospect who could grow into a serviceable player. Granted, a player of Edwar Ramirez’s caliber would not warrant a top prospect in a trade, but maybe they could have taken a project of some sort off Texas’s hands. Regardless, for the situation the Yankees were in, it’s not bad at all. The bullpen was...

How Much Does Priceless Cost? The Derek Jeter Contract Story

Posted by Tyler Lakin in NY Yankees on 03 9th, 2010 | 2 Comments
Earlier today I posted what numbers I thought Derek Jeter would put up this season. However, there is a much more important topic that can be discussed about Jeter. This year his contract runs out… what is going to happen? I mean, he has to re-sign with the Yankees, right? Derek Jeter playing ball for any other club would be baseball heresy. It would be sacrilegious to the world of sports as we know it. You thought Emmitt Smith or Jerry Rice going to another team was bad? Those guys wish they had the legend status that Jeter has attained right now – and Jeter still has more years left in...

Derek Jeter 2010 Projection

Posted by Tyler Lakin in NY Yankees on 03 9th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Derek Jeter had one of his best years as a Yankee last season. He was a phenomenal offensive force for the Yankees, manned shortstop like he usually does, was clutch for them when they needed him to be, and was a top contender in the AL MVP race. Oh yeah, he led them to a 27th World Series title, forgot that important little tidbit. What more can you ask for from Jeter?  You can ask him to do the same thing over again… Plate Appearances: 711 At Bats: 659 Hits: 210 Walks + HBP: 52 Doubles: 31 Triples: 3 Home Runs: 12 Runs Batted In: 75 Runs Scored: 116 Stolen Bases: 15 Batting Average:...

Pettitte On Track After Simulated Game

Posted by Tyler Lakin in NY Yankees on 03 8th, 2010 | No Comments
Earlier today Andy Pettitte threw a simulated game while the rest of the team played in spring training games. After today, he is one step closer to making his first start of spring training. Apparently in his 36 pitches he was extremely effective and made significant progress. Word is he did not allow a single hit, although he did get some easy scoring on a ball hit by minor leaguer Colin Curtis. This is the same thing Pettitte did last year. He eased into throwing, and he said he likes breaking into it like this. A sad truth Yankee fans have to start facing is that Pettitte is getting...

Javiery Impressive

Posted by Josh Stumpek in NY Yankees on 03 8th, 2010 | No Comments
Javy Vazquez walked into the clubhouse this morning whistling with a big grin on his face.  Clearly Vazquez was excited to finally get on the mound in a game situation this afternoon. Flash to 1:05 ET and Vazquez is watching his first pitch of the 2010 spring training sail over the right field wall of George M. Steinbrenner field off the bat of Jimmy Rollins.  The pitch was an 86 mph fastball, either a very flat slider or two-seamer right down broadway and Rollins absolutely crushed it.  It definitely wasn’t the fresh start wearing a Yankees hat that Vazquez was looking for. ...

Mark Teixeira 2010 Projection

Posted by Tyler Lakin in NY Yankees on 03 8th, 2010 | No Comments
I’m calling it now – Mark Teixeira will win the AL MVP this season. I’m sure all the writers on Bronx Bombers Beat will submit their predictions for all sorts of awards, but this one I want to make loud and clear early. Teixeira really is the complete package. He’s a great defensive player (I know people think first base is an easy position to play, but strong defense there really is underrated. Try putting someone there who can’t handle a bad throw, or can’t react to a screamer down the line and then say first base is easy to play), he’s clutch, and he’s one of the best...

Happy B(ean)- Day

Posted by Josh Stumpek in NY Yankees on 03 6th, 2010 | No Comments
Today is Francisco Cervelli’s 24th birthday.  However, his celebrations won’t be going according to plan. He’ll be celebrating his birthday with a trip to the hospital; and not for the reason that many 24 year olds go to the hospital on their birthday.  The Yankees number one option for backup catcher for the 2010 season left today’s game against the Blue Jays early.  In the third inning Cervelli was hit in the head with a low 90’s fastball from Blue Jays’ pitcher Zech Zinicola.  The pitch drilled Cervelli squarely in the helmet dropping him...
