According to SI.com, the Yankees have signed Marcus Thames to a 1-year, $900,000 deal if he makes the 25-man roster. Last season, Thames batted .252 with 13 home runs and 36 RBIs in 87 with the Detroit Tigers. Marcus Thames was a 30th round draft pick for the Yankees in 1996, and made his major league debut in 2002 hitting a home run in his first big league at bat. He would go on to have 12 more at-bats in the 2002 season and was traded in the 2003 season to the Rangers for Ruben Sierra.
Thames is a career .243 hitter with 101 home runs, and and 261 RBIs. On the same day the Yankees make Randy Winn official, Thames is added to be yet another contender for an outfield spot. He will be contending with Winn & Brett Gardner for the 3rd outfield spot.
