Yankees 2010 Spring Training Broadcast Schedule

Posted by admin in NY Yankees on 02 23rd, 2010 | 10 Comments
The Yankees have a total of 18 spring training games slated to be broadcast on TV.  MLB Network has not officially released their spring training broadcast schedule yet, but I did some digging around on the site on their day-to-day TV schedule and found the games that they are broadcasting. The games in bold are games that are being played earlier that day and being broadcast later that night by MLB Network.  The teams that are underlined are teams that are playing with a split squad for that game. Wed, Mar 3rd 1:00 p.m.                   Pittsburgh @ NY...

Worried about Jeter, Rivera, & Girardi?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 02 23rd, 2010 | 2 Comments
Well you shouldn’t be! Over the past two weeks, there has been a lot of talk about the contracts ending for 3 key Yankees at the end of the 2010 season. Come November, Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera will become free agents, and Joe Girardi’s contract will be up. Brian Cashman has repeatedly informed the media that the Yankees do not negotiate with upcoming free agents until after the season. He has made it clear that this is a policy that the team has always followed. Yankee fans need not fret. Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera both had one of the best seasons of their respective...

Yankees Bullpen Shaping Up

Posted by admin in NY Yankees on 02 22nd, 2010 | No Comments
The Yankees signed Chan Ho Park today.  The deal is a one year deal worth about $1.2 million.  The last time you may have seen Park was in the World Series as a member of the Phillies.  Overall, his post season was mediocre having a 4.05 ERA in 6 and 2/3 innings.  Park used to be a solid starting pitcher for the Dodgers when he first broke into the big leagues.  Then he went to Texas where he saw his career implode.  The five seasons while on Texas and others, his ERA never dipped below 5.00 as a starter.  Then in 2008, the Dodgers gave him another chance and he responded with a 3.40...

New Park Already?

Posted by admin in NY Yankees on 02 22nd, 2010 | 1 Comment
Last year the Yankees christened the New Yankee Stadium with a World Series championship. Critics said the new stadium lacked the aura of the old stadium, and without a doubt it did. However, the Yankees did everything they could to inject some history between the walls of the new stadium as quickly as possible.  While the Yankees did a great job at making their new house a home, the criticism surrounding the stadium was overwhelming.  The Yankees heard complaints about everything from the stadium being a bandbox, to the jet stream to right-center, the empty lower level seats,...

New Faces, New Places

Posted by admin in NY Yankees on 02 22nd, 2010 | No Comments
Curtis should make a seamless transition into pinstripes. The 2010 baseball season is upon us as pitchers and catchers are underway at their respective Spring Training camps.  The reporting of pitchers and catchers not only signifies the beginning of the season, but also marks the end of the off-season. With Spring Training underway and Johnny Damon finally signing with the Tigers, its time to take a look at the Yankees off-season moves. New York generally makes a big splash in the off-season, generating headlines world wide about the massive contract they used to lure some all-star to the...

Cervelli is A-Ok

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 02 15th, 2010 | 2 Comments
According to Joe Girardi, Francisco Cervelli has the potential to be a #1 catcher According to a report in the NY Daily News today, Francisco Cervelli is not feeling any lingering effects after taking a bat to the head during winter ball, which he had to cut short due to the incident.  According to the article: Francisco Cervelli stopped playing winter ball in his native Venezuela after he was struck in the head by a hitter’s back-swing during a game, he said after a recent workout at the Yankees’ minor-league complex.Cervelli was examined at a hospital in Venezuela and the...

Gene Monahan-less Spring Training

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 02 14th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Long time trainer Gene Monahan When spring training opens in 2 days and the Yankees begin defense of their 2009 World Series championship, there will be a VERY familiar, VERY important face missing at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida. The Yankees announced earlier today that longtime head trainer Gene Monahan will be taking a medical leave of absence to deal with “a significant illness” that may also keep him out through the start of the 2010 regular season. The nature of the illness has not been disclosed. Statement released by the Yankees in regards to Gene...

Offseason Mistake: NOT Signing Mark DeRosa

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 02 9th, 2010 | 2 Comments
DeRosa would have been a great addition for the Yankees The Yankees have had a great offseason – nobody is questioning that. The acquisitions of Granderson, Vazquez, and many others were very good. The one thing that irked me was NOT grabbing Mark DeRosa. He ended up signing with San Francisco for $12 million over 2 years. A Guy who would hit .280 with 15 home runs for the Yankees while hitting 8th, playing multiple positions (as well as definitely plugging up left field), and being a great clubhouse guy would have only cost them $6 million per year?! Randy Winn was a decent signing...

Randy Winn is Officially a Yankee

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 02 9th, 2010 | 2 Comments
On Monday, February 8th, Randy Winn and the Yankees officially came to terms on a 1-year contract for $1.1 million. According to a report I read from the Associated Press the outfielder can earn an additional $900,000 in performance bonuses based on plate appearances against left-handed pitchers. He would get $100,000 each for 50, 75 and 100, and $150,000 apiece for 125, 150, 175 and 200. He understand that he will be sharing outfield playing time with Brett Gardner. Winn is no stranger to joining a new team and acquainting himself with different players. Over the last 12 season, he has...

Yankees Sign Marcus Thames

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 02 8th, 2010 | 2 Comments
According to SI.com, the Yankees have signed Marcus Thames to a 1-year, $900,000 deal if he makes the 25-man roster.  Last season, Thames batted .252 with 13 home runs and 36 RBIs in 87 with the Detroit Tigers. Marcus Thames was a 30th round draft pick for the Yankees in 1996, and made his major league debut in 2002 hitting a home run in his first big league at bat. He would go on to have 12 more at-bats in the 2002 season and was traded in the 2003 season to the Rangers for Ruben Sierra. Thames is a career .243 hitter with 101 home runs, and and 261 RBIs. On the same day the Yankees make...

Baseball Season is Finally Here

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 02 8th, 2010 | No Comments
After the Vince Lombardi trophy was handed out last evening to the New Orleans Saints, the clock officially struck 2010 Major League Baseball season. After what I feel like was a slow off-season, the Yankees will pack up the truck today and head down to sunny Tampa, Florida. According to Yankees.com, we have EXACTLY 9 days until Pitchers and Catchers report and most importantly, 54 days until MLB Opening Night when the Yankees take on the Red Sox in Boston. All we need now in the northeast is for the cold and the snow to go away, and bring on spring. It’s at this point in the...

Joba vs. Hughes – The Battle for #5

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 02 7th, 2010 | No Comments
As the Super Bowl quickly comes and goes, Yankee fans are becoming more and more antsy for the baseball season to start. In my mind, we are officially in baseball season once the clock expires to end the Super Bowl. Whether it’s to crown the Saints or the Colts the champions of the NFL, the only thing resonating in my head is the sound of a baseball hitting the catchers mitt. Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in 10 days! That’s right! Only 10 days left! With the acquisition of Javier Vasquez in December of 2009, the Yankees have solidified their first 4 spots in the...

Javy Nice Addition

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 02 6th, 2010 | 1 Comment
If you aren’t already aware (..and I hope you are if you are reading this post), Javier Vasquez was re-acquired by the Yankees in a 5-player deal with the Atlanta Braves in December 2009. I have heard mixed feelings from both Yankees fans and non-Yankees fans ever since this trade was completed. About 80% of the reactions heard were all negative. Yes, yes, yes, yes, we are all aware that Javy was a disaster in the second half of the 2004 season (including the 2004 postseason). Actually, disaster is putting it lightly when talking about his performance in October. From a pitcher who was...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
