Those near 161st Street and River Avenue yesterday, possibly caught a glimpse of something both sad and historic. A video clip shows one passerby taking it all in, as he saw a large piece of the upper deck to the old Yankee Stadium teeter forward and fall to the ground. With the entire upper deck scheduled to be down within the next 3 weeks, fans walking to the new Yankee Stadium this year will pause and remember the history they witnessed in the old Yankee Stadium.
As I watch the video over, I remembered some of my favorite memories and games at the old stadium. I remember my routines: how excited I was to get to the stadium in time for the gates to open so I could rush into right field to grab a prime spot to watch batting practice from. I remember the feelings: the tension and excitement in the stadium when David Wells was perfect on a spring day in 1998. I remember the energy: During an ALDS game, I stood in the upper deck after a big Yankee home run, and actually felt the floor beneath me shake and ripple.
As the stadium is dismantled, I thought it would be a good time for fans to share some of their unique memories of the stadium. Feel free to post any stories or comments about your experiences in the old stadium.
