Joe Mauer Contract Extension: Officially Never Going to Become a Yankee

The terrible news came down just a short while ago. Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins agreed to an 8 year, $184 million contract extension. Talk about money.

As a Yankee fan, I dreamed and hoped that Mauer would make it to the end of the season as a free agent, just thinking of the possibility of the Yankees signing him. Just think of the lineup that would be out there. It would have been unstoppable. Realistically I knew it would never happen, as Mauer is well on his way to becoming the greatest Twin ever, but it was still fun to think about it for at least a little bit. At least he’s not in the AL East, right? Either way, congrats Joe – you deserve it.

I’d bump Posada for Mauer anyday. Too bad.

im not sure why people want mauer…Yeh OK he’s a good catcher, but do the yankees need ALL the all stars? I’m a die hard yankees fan, and don’t see why we need an all star at every position.

It’s not so much as a need for an all star as much as it is the want for an upgrade in talent. If you can, then why not?

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
