Don’t fret, Yankee fans. These are not serious injuries at all. Sure, during the season this may mean a missed game or two, but luckily we aren’t there yet.
Mark Teixeira was hit in the elbow by a fastball from “I-have-never-met-my-potential” Jeremy Guthrie. With due respect to Guthrie, it looked like he got him pretty good, good enough to force Tex to leave the game. However, despite Guthrie’s best efforts to injure Teixeira, he plans on being back and ready to go on Thursday. The odds on Teixeira homering in his first at bat against Guthrie this season? 100%.
In other news, Aceves is fighting off a small injury as well. He is aiming for a Friday return to action, but he is not at as certain. Girardi said that if he can throw another inning in spring training then he will start the season with the team. If he doesn’t throw another inning, Girardi has said that he would be a candidate to open the season on the 15 day DL. Hopefully he can shake his back stiffness soon, because he is a crucial part to the team’s bullpen.
