Andy Pettitte 2010 Projection

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 16th, 2010 | No Comments
In my opinion, and I’m sure I share this opinion with many other Yankee fans, Andy Pettitte is one of the greatest left handed pitchers this organization has ever seen. He helped lead this team to many championships, provided great pitching during the season, and perhaps most importantly, he was extremely clutch for the Yankees in the post season. He had a knack for being able to get a win for the Yankees after a loss in the playoffs, which is something that was obviously vital to their success and momentum. He’s another year older though, and every year it’s a decision for him on...

Cano to Become an RBI Machine?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 15th, 2010 | 2 Comments
Reports out of Tampa indicate that the Yankees are planning to hit Robinson Cano in the #5 spot hitting behind Alex Rodriguez. With Cano’s consistent improvement since he came up to the big leagues, we would all think that he is the perfect candidate to fulfill the position left by Hideki Matsui after he signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Last year, Cano showed glimpses of how great he can be. He hit a stellar .320, smacked a career high 25 home runs, and had his first 200 hit season, ending the season with 204. The issue with Robinson is whether he has the...

My Trip to Spring Training in Tampa

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 15th, 2010 | 3 Comments
March 6th, 2010 started off with great promise! I awoke bright early, both fully functional and most importantly, with the sun shining bright. The weather reports were all saying the same thing… I was to expect a cloudless, 70+ degree day with absolutely NO chance of rain. In my mind, the P-E-R-F-E-C-T day for baseball. We hopped in the rental car which was an absolutely dreadful (reader should re-read “absolutely dreadful” and throw in Simon Cowell’s accent) Mercury Grand Marquis and made the 90 mile trip to Tampa, FL, to be more exact, George M. Steinbrenner Field. During...

My Trip to Spring Training in Tampa (IMAGES)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 15th, 2010 | 1 Comment
I hope you all enjoy the pictures taken during my trip to Tampa on Saturday, March 6th, 2010. Unfortunately the Yankees lost to the Blue Jays by a score of 9-1. Despite the Yankees losing, I had an absolutely fantastic time and I highly recommend that ALL Yankees fans make the trip to  George M. Steinbrenner field at some point. There are other pictures that will be adding to the gallery over time. To read about my experience, click here. Let’s go...

“The Boss” to Attend Opening Day

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 14th, 2010 | No Comments
MLB.com reporter Bryan Hoch, beat writer of the New York Yankees, reported yesterday evening that “The Boss” will be in attendance on Tuesday, April 13th as the Yankees take on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at 1:05pm. This is great news for all Yankees fans as “The Boss” has not been seen around Yankee Stadium much since Hal and Hank Steinbrenner have taken over the day-to-day responsibilities. According to the report: George Steinbrenner is planning to attend Opening Day at Yankee Stadium, when the Yankees will celebrate their 2009 World Series championship in...

A Cathedral Crumbles

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 12th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Those near 161st Street and River Avenue yesterday, possibly caught a glimpse of something both sad and historic. A video clip shows one passerby taking it all in, as he saw a large piece of the upper deck to the old Yankee Stadium teeter forward and fall to the ground. With the entire upper deck scheduled to be down within the next 3 weeks, fans walking to the new Yankee Stadium this year will pause and remember the history they witnessed in the old Yankee Stadium. As I watch the video over, I remembered some of my favorite memories and games at the old stadium.  I remember my routines:...

Javier Vazquez 2010 Projection

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 12th, 2010 | No Comments
Welcome back to town, Javy. Okay, so maybe your first stint in pinstripes didn’t work out so well… that’s okay! You went away for a little bit, worked on your game, and most notably, dominated the National League (a.k.a. Junior Varsity). Javier probably isn’t reading this, so it would make more sense to talk about him rather than to him. His time spent away from the Yankees was very good for him. He did have a few shaky years, but his most recent season spent playing for the Braves was quite simply incredible. He posted an ERA under 3, a 1.03 WHIP, and probably the most important...

Yankees Greats Focus on Future

Posted by admin in MLB, NY Yankees on 03 11th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Over the past few months much of the focus surrounding the Yankees has been on the contracts of Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera.  Both contracts are up after the 2010 season and no Yankees fans could ever bear to see either player put on a different uniform.  While this is an interesting story that will spark up from time to time over the season, it is already a story that I am sure baseball fans are sick of hearing about.  Therefore, I decided I would like to discuss the future of two FORMER Yankees greats; Donnie Baseball, and one of the best managers in Yankees history, Joe Torre....

A.J. Burnett 2010 Projection

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 11th, 2010 | No Comments
A.J. Burnett did a mighty fine job for the Yankees in his first year of service, but to me, still did not live up to his billing. He went 13-9 while posting a 4.04 ERA last season. In my book, a starting pitcher with his raw talent and paycheck should be doing a little better. Yes, he put up 18 wins the year before in Toronto, but he still managed an ERA above 4! Talent is not Burnett’s problem, but consistency is. He has a tendency to get rattled and shaken up when things are not going his way. His drama duel with Posada is apparently getting better, but I’m still not ready to fully...

Update on A-Rod Situation

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 10th, 2010 | No Comments
News broke earlier today that Alex Rodriguez spent some of his hip rehab time with Canadian doctor Anthony Galea. Galea, who is currently facing drug charges and an investigation into his methods, told the Associated Press on Sunday that he treated Rodriguez during his rehab, but that he did not give him human growth hormone. This is a significant development for two reasons: 1) It confirms A-Rod did some of his rehab with a Canadian doctor who is notorious for using HGH. Galea’s assistant was arrested in September trying to move 20 vials of HGH across the U.S. Border. 2) The Yankees claim...

Going Bowling

Posted by admin in NY Yankees on 03 10th, 2010 | No Comments
Last week the Yankees held their second annual team outing.  The outing was held at an arcade and consisted of a tournament of a car racing video game, skee ball, and pop-a-shot. It seemed as if all of the Yankees had a great time at the team outing, but as Joe Girardi noted, some of the players had suggested other activities.  One of those activities was bowling; and it looks as if the Yankees have taken the advice of the players but they aren’t heading to a bowling alley.  The Yankees and the new Yankee Stadium will play host to a college football bowl game in 2010.  The game...

CC Sabathia 2010 Projection

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 10th, 2010 | 1 Comment
The starting pitching for the Yankees is perhaps the strongest in the league. In the years leading up to last season’s championship run, the problem was always the pitching. Whether it was injuries, or just lack of talent, the offense was never the problem. One of last year’s additions was obviously key to the team’s success. CC Sabathia was a force to be reckoned with every 5 games. Teams would see the big chunk of man that Carsten Charles is and start shaking in their boots. When a 6’7, 290 pound man is the one throwing the baseball at you, it’s only natural to have at least some...

Edwar Ramirez Traded to Texas Rangers for Cash Considerations

Posted by Brian Capozzi in MLB, NY Yankees on 03 9th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Edwar Ramirez has just been traded to the Texas Rangers for cash considerations. The Yankees bullpen was already very crowded, so this is an extremely low risk move. However, it also has relatively low reward. They’re getting cash back. They’re not getting a random prospect who could grow into a serviceable player. Granted, a player of Edwar Ramirez’s caliber would not warrant a top prospect in a trade, but maybe they could have taken a project of some sort off Texas’s hands. Regardless, for the situation the Yankees were in, it’s not bad at all. The bullpen was...

How Much Does Priceless Cost? The Derek Jeter Contract Story

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 9th, 2010 | 3 Comments
Earlier today I posted what numbers I thought Derek Jeter would put up this season. However, there is a much more important topic that can be discussed about Jeter. This year his contract runs out… what is going to happen? I mean, he has to re-sign with the Yankees, right? Derek Jeter playing ball for any other club would be baseball heresy. It would be sacrilegious to the world of sports as we know it. You thought Emmitt Smith or Jerry Rice going to another team was bad? Those guys wish they had the legend status that Jeter has attained right now – and Jeter still has more years left in...

Derek Jeter 2010 Projection

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 03 9th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Derek Jeter had one of his best years as a Yankee last season. He was a phenomenal offensive force for the Yankees, manned shortstop like he usually does, was clutch for them when they needed him to be, and was a top contender in the AL MVP race. Oh yeah, he led them to a 27th World Series title, forgot that important little tidbit. What more can you ask for from Jeter?  You can ask him to do the same thing over again… Plate Appearances: 711 At Bats: 659 Hits: 210 Walks + HBP: 52 Doubles: 31 Triples: 3 Home Runs: 12 Runs Batted In: 75 Runs Scored: 116 Stolen Bases: 15 Batting Average:...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
