Jayson Werth in Pinstripes Next Year?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in MLB, NY Yankees on 04 1st, 2010 | one response

It’s never too early to look ahead. Jayson Werth, if he so chooses, will be a free agent next year, and probably one of the hottest commodities on the market, as an outfielder who can hit for power and run very well. According to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, we have a little trick up our sleeve in order to get Werth. Hall of Famer and Yankee great Reggie Jackson has a great relationship with the Werth family, and can play a huge role in the recruiting effort to get one of the most dynamic players in baseball over to the Bronx.

Obviously, this is completely speculative. Nobody knows what is going to happen over the course of the year. With that being said, having a player like that in left field would be a nice luxury (no offense to Brett Gardner or Randy Winn). The pop he would add to the lineup would be quite a boost to an already star studded offense. If the Yankees can afford him and get him, I see no reason why they shouldn’t pull the trigger. Viva la Werth!

I hear that they have their eye on Crawford who I think would be a better fit (imagine Crawford as your leadoff hitter with Jeter behind him). I know it seems Crawford has been around forever but he is still only 28.

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
