The Yankees won the final road game of the 2010 spring training schedule by a score of 5-2 against the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin, FL. Some notable offense output by the Yankees included an RBI base hit to score Curtis Granderson who led off the game with a double of Blue Jays starter Brian Tallet, who I should point out is a lefty. This is a good sign for Yankees fans as Granderson seems to be getting some solid swings off of lefty pitchers.
Other Yankee offensive stars include Robinson Cano who went 2-for-2 with a paid of RBIs, and shortstop Ramiro Pena, who belted a run-scoring double. On the mound, A.J. Burnett had his second straight strong outing on the mound. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, striking out 2 Blue Jays while allowing 2 walks. This was Burnett’s final outing of the spring as he prepares to face the Jon Lester and the Boston Red Sox on April 6th in Boston for the 2nd game of the season. This game markers the first time that Joba Chamberlain pitched in back-to-back games this spring. He had 1 inning of work, while striking out two batters and walking one, in turn dropping his spring training ERA to 10.45.
Coming up next for the Yankees, the team will play their final Grapefruit League home game in Tampa on Friday, April 2nd against the Baltimore Orioles. This will be Andy Pettitte’s last spring training start as he tunes up for the 3rd game of the regular against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday April 7th. Ladies and Gentleman, we are a little over 2 days away from Opening Night at Fenway Park.
