On Wednesday, C.C. Sabathia continued his dominance over the Orioles in the Yankees 8-3 win. Though slightly struggling with his command throughout the game, C.C. allowed three runs on 11 hits over 7 2/3 innings in Baltimore. In 15 career starts against the Orioles, Sabathia is 10-1 with a 2.62 ERA. This is by far the best record he has against any team in the American League East. This is good news for Yankees fans as Sabathia is slated to start against the Orioles again in his next start on Monday, May 3rd in the Bronx. The lone loss against the Orioles for Sabathia came on Opening Day in 2009 when the O’s beat the Yankees 10-5 in his first start as a New York Yankee. When asked about C.C.’s success over the Orioles before yesterdays game, Yankees skipper Joe Girardi said:
“You always look for a reason, but sometimes you can’t find them. For whatever reason, the match-ups have been favorable when he’s come to this ballpark [Camden Yards] and he’s thrown the ball extremely well.”
A.J. Burnett will take the mound today as the Yankees look to take the series in Baltimore, and head home from their nine game road trip with a 5-4 record. In his last outing, Burnett did not look sharp as he got a no-decision against the Angels.
