C(y). C(y). Sabathia

Sabathia has started off his 2010 campaign on the right foot.  The big lefty is 4-1 with a 2.74 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP.  To many casual viewers Sabathia’s dominant numbers may not come as a surprise.  However, to me the numbers that Sabathia has posted so far stand out just as much as Heidi Montag’s new rack.  Despite Sabathia’s dominance in past seasons, he has come to be known as a slow starter.  Since 2005 Sabathia has only posted an April ERA under 4.70 once, when he put up an ERA of 3.18 in 2007.  Also, since 2005 Sabathia’s April WHIP has only been below 1.39 once, which also came in 2007 when he posted a WHIP of 1.32.  This April Sabathia posted an ERA of 3.12 and a WHIP of 1.06.  What is the significance of this?  In the past 5 years Sabathia’s April numbers have only been remotely close to these once and that was in 2007 when he won the Cy Young Award.  It may be early in the season to start predicting who the AL Cy Young winner will be, but Sabathia will no doubt be right in the mix. Currently Sabathia ranks in the top 10 in both ERA and WHIP for the 2010 season with competition that is sure to fall by the wayside as the season continues. With the competition expected to fade and Sabathia expected to put up even better numbers in the coming months the Yankees could be looking at their first Cy Young since Roger Clemens in 2001 and only their second since Ron Guidry in 1978.

Will Sabathia win the AL Cy Young in 2010?

Heidi Montag’s new rack/body and C.C.’s numbers – both disgusting.

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
