Yankees at Red Sox – Round 2 (Preview)

After about a month of the 2010 baseball season, the New York Yankees will make their way up to Boston for the second time this season to face their long-time rival Boston Red Sox. As there was during the opening series of the season, there is still a lot of hype surrounding this weekends series. Though the Red Sox are one game over .500 at 15-14, they have all of a sudden started to show signs of life. The Sox are 7-3 in the last ten games, and are currently riding a four game winning streak into the series. The Yankees have had a hot start to this season. Their record stands at 19-8, and are riding a four game winning streak as well going into the series. The Yanks are also sporting a 7-3 record in their last ten games as well. One team will be ending their streak tonight. This series will display what should be three VERY strong pitching match-ups.

Friday – 7:10 p.m (YES/WCBS 880AM)
RHP Phil Hughes (3-0, 1.44 ERA) vs. RHP Josh Beckett (1-0, 6.31 ERA)

Saturday – 3:10 p.m. (FOX/WCBS 880AM)
LHP CC Sabathia (4-1, 2.74 ERA) vs. RHP Clay Buchholz (3-2, 2.97 ERA)

Sunday – 8:05 p.m (ESPN/WCBS 880AM)
RHP A.J. Burnett (4-0, 1.99 ERS) vs. LHP Jon Lester (2-2, 3.93 ERA)

According to the New York Post:

WHO’S HOT:
Brett Gardner – He has hit in eight straight games (12-27), good for a .444 batting average. He has scored 10 runs and has 4 stolen bases in his last six games. It should also be noted that Robinson Cano is a career .362 (17-47) hitter versus Josh Beckett with three home runs and 10 RBIs.

WHO’S NOT:
David Ortiz – On the season, Ortiz is hitting a dismal .171 (12-70) and has not provided the potent offense that the Red Sox and their fans are expecting. He has been dropped in the line-up in the hopes to relieve some of the pressure to produce to get him hitting again. We can’t forget that Ortiz started off the same way last season and caught fire in June.

What do you think the outcome of the series will be? If you had to choose an MVP after the final out of the 3rd game, who do you predict it will be?

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
