According to a report on ESPN.com, the Yankees are not planning on changing their approach on the trade front despite the numerous injuries that have landed a few of the superstars on the disabled list. While it is not apparent that the most recent injury to Jorge Posada should have a long term affect on the veteran catcher, it is becoming more and more obvious that his body is unable to keep up with the day-in day-out grind of squatting behind the plate on a daily basis. While Posada is on the DL, this season has thus far proven that Francisco Cervelli can handle the starting spot, but the question has been raised: what do the Yankees do in the event Jorge Posada can not stay healthy throughout the rest of the 2010 season? Chad Moeller is a decent back-up for Cervelli at the moment, but if Posada goes down again, the Yankees will need to seriously consider bringing in a proven veteran to help bring Cervelli along.
On Thursday, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman made it clear that the Yankees WILL NOT force a trade just because Posada, Nick Johnson, Curtis Granderson, and Alfredo Aceves are on the disabled list.
