Yankees at Red Sox – Round 2 (Preview)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 05 7th, 2010 | No Comments
After about a month of the 2010 baseball season, the New York Yankees will make their way up to Boston for the second time this season to face their long-time rival Boston Red Sox. As there was during the opening series of the season, there is still a lot of hype surrounding this weekends series. Though the Red Sox are one game over .500 at 15-14, they have all of a sudden started to show signs of life. The Sox are 7-3 in the last ten games, and are currently riding a four game winning streak into the series. The Yankees have had a hot start to this season. Their record stands at 19-8, and...

Connect Four – Starting Rotation Leads Way

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 05 6th, 2010 | No Comments
Filthy, nasty, downright rude – to opposing hitters that is! The Yanks have their own Mt. Rushmore, and they’ve been looking down at the rest of the American League since opening day. C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Andy Pettitte, and Phil Hughes, who we can all agree has supplanted Mr. Vasquez as the fourth starter, have been nothing short of lights out this season. How else could the Yankees spend their May 6th off day sporting a 19-8 record with hardly any offensive output from their 2-3-4 hitters? Heading into the weekend series at Fenway Park, one that will feature Hughes, Sabathia and...

C(y). C(y). Sabathia

Posted by admin in NY Yankees on 05 6th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Sabathia has started off his 2010 campaign on the right foot.  The big lefty is 4-1 with a 2.74 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP.  To many casual viewers Sabathia’s dominant numbers may not come as a surprise.  However, to me the numbers that Sabathia has posted so far stand out just as much as Heidi Montag’s new rack.  Despite Sabathia’s dominance in past seasons, he has come to be known as a slow starter.  Since 2005 Sabathia has only posted an April ERA under 4.70 once, when he put up an ERA of 3.18 in 2007.  Also, since 2005 Sabathia’s April WHIP has only been below 1.39...

Yankees Minor League Leaders

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Charleston RiverDogs, SWB Yankees, Tampa Yankees, Trenton Thunder on 05 5th, 2010 | 1 Comment
As the season goes on, it is inevitable that there will be promotions within the Yankee minor league farm system, as well as promotions by a few to the show. I have decided that every couple weeks, I will keep you, the reader, updated with how the top prospects are performing statistically. Please be aware that just because the player is listed below, does not necessarily mean that the player is a top prospect in the farm system. When looking at the Yankees minor league affiliates page, they have listed out the top players statistically across all minor league levels. I have decided to share...

Swisher Salutes (Week 4 – 4/26 to 5/2)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 05 4th, 2010 | No Comments
Swisher Salutes You, Robinson Cano, for carrying the offense on your back! You are the BronxBombersBeat Yankees Player of the Week for Week 4 of the 2010 season. It seems almost criminal to not have given Robbie Cano this award earlier. Yesterday he was named the American League player of the month for April. With Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira combining for 4 homers in the entire month, one must start to wonder: Where would the Yankees be right now without Cano? Sure the starting pitching has been great, and Rivera is unhittable; but without a couple of clutch bats in the lineup, no team...

One Swing Leads to Yankees Winn

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Baltimore Orioles, NY Yankees on 05 4th, 2010 | No Comments
Randy Winn did not come to the Yankees expecting to fit into the typical Bronx Bomber form. He did not come here to mash bombs into the upper deck. Randy Winn came to the Yankees to help the team win on a daily basis whenever he is called upon. With Curtis Granderson on the disabled list, it is inevitable that Winn and Marcus Thames will be splitting time in left field as Brett Gardner temporarily transitions himself into the center field role until Granderson is ready to go. Winn got the nod in yesterday’s start against the righty throwing Jeremy Guthrie, and in his first at-bat, it...

May is here… and so is Teixeira

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 05 3rd, 2010 | No Comments
At 12:00am on Saturday morning, the calendar turned from April to May and so it seems that Mark Teixeira’s bat has turned as well. Going into Saturday’s game against the Chicago White Sox, Teixeira was hitting a dismal .136 for the season with two home runs and 9 RBI. I can guarantee that he was extremely happy to wake up Saturday morning to know that it was May and that his season historically changes once April ends. If Saturday and Sunday are any indication of this, history is 100% correct. In the final two games on the series versus the White Sox, Teixeira when 6-11 at the...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
