ESPN.com Insider’s Rumor Central is reporting that former Yankees manager Buck Showalter has been contacted by the Baltimore Orioles about their open managerial position. For those of you who are too young to remember who Buck Showalter was, he managed the Yankees from 1992-1995, compiling an overall record of 313-268 leading the team to a first place finish in the strike-shortened 1994 season, as well as a 2nd place in 1995 (the first ever wild card) only to lose to the Seattle Mariners in five games. After his time with the Yankees, he spent 3 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks (1998-2000) and 4 seasons with the Texas Rangers (2003-2006). His overall managerial record in 11 seasons is 882-833 (.514 winning percentage). Click on the image above to view Buck Showalter’s career managerial record.
According to the report on ESPN:
Our Tim Kurkjian reports that Showalter, a former skipper for the Yankees, D-backs and Rangers, has been contacted by the Baltimore Orioles about their managerial position. Showalter, currently an analyst for ESPN, is expected to meet with Orioles officials in less than a week. The Orioles already have talked to another ESPN employee, Bobby Valentine, as well as Eric Wedge about their vacancy. Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun writes Thursday that the Orioles are looking for a strong personality to work with their core of young players and reverse a culture of losing. Showalter would fit that mold, as would Valentine.
