School of the Hard Knocks – Report Card 4

Posted by Tom Ortiz in NY Yankees on 06 7th, 2010 | No Comments
New 3 Series Yankee Report Card. Last report grades are in gray for comparison. The School of the Hard Knocks: Every 3 series I will be grading (A+ – F) each active player on the Yankees Roster. The players grades will be determined based on their stats, their performance, any “extra” contributions they make during the 3 series, and well, my personal opinion. The report cards will be split between fielders and pitchers. Totals reflect the average. Grades are not cumulative. Honorable Mentions: Alex Rodriguez: 20th Grand Slam against the Cleveland Indians Nick Swisher: For his generous...

Where Did Jose Bau-beast-a Come From?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in AL East News, Toronto Blue Jays on 06 5th, 2010 | 1 Comment
I was recently reading Buster Olney’s blog on ESPN.com where he explains the reasoning behind where Jose Bautista’s power came from and what he did to become the threat that he is this season. Coming into the 2010 campaign, I can bet that not a single baseball fan out there would have expected that the MLB home run leader 56 games into the season would be Bautista. Through these 56 games, Bautista’s line looks like this .259/.380/.627. He has blasted a major league leading 18 home runs, and knocked in 45 RBIs (Note: all stats are through 6/4/10). If you look at his stats...

Yankee Stadium Tour

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 06 4th, 2010 | 1 Comment
In early May, my family and I took a trip into the Bronx to take a tour of the new Yankee Stadium for my fathers birthday. It was an experience I will never forget, and for all you Yankees fans out there, I highly recommend taking this tour. It is worth the $20! I figured that I would share pictures from my experience with you and if you are interested in taking the tour and have any questions, please feel free to shoot mean e-mail, or leave comments below and I will help you out. Hope you enjoy! Just as a side note, you will not see any pictures from the clubhouse area as we were “not...

The Optimal Role for Brett Gardner

Posted by admin in NY Yankees on 06 3rd, 2010 | No Comments
Brett Gardner has been a very pleasant surprise this season. A .299/.378/.379 slash line combined with stellar defense makes a very solid baseball player. Throw in 18 steals in just 50 games, tied for 3rd most in the majors, and Brett Gardner is more than capable of starting everyday in left field. He is definitely a fan favorite, a role he earned through his constant hustle and his knack for exciting plays. Seriously, how can you dislike a guy who stole home. In Fenway. On opening day. Now, if the Plant Man (trademark pending)  is going to be stamped  into the Yankee lineup for...

Swisher Salutes (Week 8 – 5/24 to 5/31)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 06 3rd, 2010 | No Comments
Swisher Salutes you, Robinson Cano, for treating American League pitchers like they’re your personal batting practice pitcher! You are the BronxBombersBeat Yankees Player of the Week for Week 7 of the 2010 season. The Yankee bats are back, and so are the wins. Three games in the beautiful, spacious Target Field and a wraparound 4 game set back at the stadium against Cleveland resulted in a 5-2 record for the week. (It should have been 6-1, but we’re splitting hairs at this point.) As the team returned to it’s winning ways, it comes as no surprise that the two catalysts for this...

Umpire Not Perfect in Near Perfect Game

Posted by Brian Capozzi in MLB on 06 3rd, 2010 | No Comments
Unless you have been living in a cave for the past 12 hours, then you should know by now that Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga was one out a way from throwing the 3rd perfect game of the season… that is until Jason Donald broke up the bid, or wait, let me take that back, first base umpire Jim Joyce broke up the perfect game. You might be asking yourself, how is that even possible? Well, to start, Jason Donald hit a ground ball between Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Guillen. Though it would’ve been easier for the second baseman Guillen to make the play, Cabrera opted to field...

Is Nick Swisher For Real?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 06 2nd, 2010 | 1 Comment
Nick Swisher is off to by far one of the best starts in his 7 year career. While overshadowed with one of the best line-up in baseball including Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, and Mark Teixeira, Swisher is putting up numbers this season that could land him in the mid-summer classic, as well as give him a career year with better numbers than some of his teammates. As usual Swisher is on pace to hit about 30 home runs this season and drive in 90-100 runs, but the aspect of his game that has changed most dramatically since last season is his ability to get base hits. After looking...

Memorial Day May Mayhem

Posted by Tom Ortiz in NY Yankees on 06 1st, 2010 | No Comments
Memorial Day, a day of remembering and honoring the brave men and women who have served this great country to keep the generous freedoms, privileges, and opportunities we still have today. Some honor them with memorials, some with gracious ceremonies, some with prayers and celebrations, and in the baseball world, an Alex Rodriguez Grand Slam. On May 31st, Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez took advantage of an intentional walk to Mark Teixeira (who crushed a 3 run home run the day before), by belting a Grand Slam to solidify a win over the Indians. A-Rods Grand Slam is now the 20th of his great...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
