Chan Ho Park has been designated for assignment

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 07 31st, 2010 | No Comments
According to Chad Jennings, Park has been designated to make room for the roster: To make room on the roster… Chan Ho Park designated for assignment. Alfredo Aceves moved to the 60-day disabled list. Colin Curtis and Juan Miranda optioned to Triple-A. Aceves has been out more than 60 days, so that move really has no impact other than opening a spot on the 40-man roster. With the addition of Kerry Wood, from the Cleveland Indians at the trade deadline, it was just a matter of time for Park!!! You can see Chan Ho Park’s stats, by clicking here: Colin Curtis and Juan Miranda were...

UPDATE: Yankees Acquire Lance Berkman… It’s Official!

Posted by Brian Capozzi in MLB, NY Yankees, Trade Rumors on 07 30th, 2010 | 1 Comment
According to a report on MLB.com, the Yankees are very close to getting Lance Berkman. There is no talk about who the Yankees would deal, but when Astros General Manager Ed Wade approached Berkman, who like former teammate Roy Oswalt, has a full no-trade clause, about eight teams interested in him, he approved four teams. One of those teams was the Yankees. Berkman was quoted in the article saying: “He approached me with a list of teams two days ago, I guess, and there was probably eight teams that expressed some interest, and there was four yays and four nays and we’ll kind of...

No More November Baseball, says Selig

Posted by Brian Capozzi in MLB on 07 28th, 2010 | 1 Comment
According to a report on USAToday.com, Bud Selig is working very hard to ensure that baseball is no longer played in November from 2011 and on. The 2008 and 2009 World Series both began on the last week of October which allowed the series to rollover into November. It didn’t really bother me much that the World Series ended the first week of November last year, but at that point it is no longer October baseball. My thought it is that the season should end in October… whether it’s game four of the World Series or game seven. According to the article: Major League Baseball,...

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 07 27th, 2010 | 1 Comment
C.C. Sabathia takes the hill tonight as the Yankees face his former club, the Cleveland Indians. Entering tonight the Yankees own the best record of the month with a 16-5 record for July. C.C. Sabathia, who celebrated his 30th birthday on July 21st, is going for win number 150 for his career. The big man is pitching exactly as everyone is expecting of him. On the season, Sabathia has a 13-3 record in 21 starts, with a 3.18 ERA and 119 K in 144.1 IP. He has been a workhorse for the Yankees and despite some early season struggles, he has come back strong and is tied for the American League...

Congratulations Robinson Cano

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 07 26th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Robbie Cano, dont’cha know,  is having a season that many baseball players would die for. He has been hitting with power and consistency since opening day in April. He is on pace for a 30 home run, 100+ RBI, and a .330+ batting average season and could very well be a strong MVP candidate. Oh yeah, and he just joined the 1,000 hit club. Of course he shares this club with many other baseball players, but the fact of the matter is that Robinson Cano is only 27 years old. By the time Derek Jeter turned 28 years old, he amassed 1,199 hits. Cano is not far behind ‘The Captain’....

Jake Westbrook in Pinstripes?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees, Trade Rumors on 07 26th, 2010 | No Comments
A little over two weeks ago, Cliff Lee, one of the best pitchers in baseball was traded from the Mariners to the Rangers… over the weekend, Dan Haren, starter for the Diamondbacks was traded to the Angels in a 5-player swap, and now, Jake Westbrook is on the market. As if it’s any surprise, the Yankees are a contender in a potential trade with the Tribe that could bring Westbrook to the Bronx. This is just a rumor right now, but with Andy Pettitte on the DL, and after Sergio Mitre’s awful start on Saturday, the Yankees will need another starter to bring them into October,...

Today’s Lineup – Royals vs Yankees (07/24/10)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 07 24th, 2010 | No Comments
Looks like Swisher will be sitting out for the 2nd straight game due to a sore left Achilles according to Chad Jennings. Nick Swisher doesn’t expect to play today, but his sore left Achilles felt considerably better this morning than it did yesterday. “I feel way better today than I did yesterday, but what’s one more day?” he said. “Felt good today. I did so much treatment yesterday and this and that. Whatever it was, it feels a lot better waking up the next morning.” Swisher said he plans to go through his usual pregame routine. He has the injury heavily taped, but he’ll...

Tonight’s Lineup – Royals vs Yankees (07/23/10)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 07 23rd, 2010 | No Comments
Yankee faithfuls are wondering, if tonight’s the night that Alex Rodriguez joins the Exclusive 600 club!! Personally, i hope Rodriguez gets his 600th Home Run tomorrow vs Royals pitcher Kyle Davies. As i stated in yesterday’s article, Davies is the pitcher that surrenderd up number 500!!! Either way, can’t wait to see the ball crushed off A-Rod’s bat for number 600!! Nick Swisher has been scratched from the lineup with soreness in his achilles. Colin Curtis is taking his spot in right field. Brett Gardner has moved into the lead-off spot. Courtesy of Chad...

Pitching Matchups – Royals vs Yankees

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 07 22nd, 2010 | 2 Comments
With just 2 homers away from his 600th, Alex Rodriguez must be pretty excited that the Kansas City Royals are coming to the Bronx, for a four game series. Why you ask? Well, back on August 4th, 2007, Rodriguez hit his 500th HR at Old Yankee Stadium vs the Royals, and became the 22nd member of the 500 club. Rodriguez became the youngest player to reach the 500 HR mark at the age of 32 years, eight days, surpassing Hall of Fame first baseman Jimmie Foxx, who played for the Boston Red Sox at the time, was 32 years, 337 days old when he hit his 500th homer in 1940. A-Rod took the first pitch he...

Yankees In Pursuit Of Cody Ross

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees, Trade Rumors on 07 21st, 2010 | No Comments
According to a report on ESPN Insider, the Yankees, along with the Atlanta Braves, are in the hunt for Florida Marlins outfielder Cody Ross. A report in today’s New York Post says that a deal has been discussed, but the asking price is too rich for the Yankees. In addition to the high price, the Marlins have talked with the Braves about Ross and asked for left reliever Mike Dunn, a former Yankee who was part of the Javier Vazquez trade last winter. ESPN’s Buster Olney was quoted as saying: Heard this: The asking prices in the current market for guys like Cody Ross are...

Jeter crowned MLB’s most marketable player!

Posted by Tom Ortiz in NY Yankees on 07 20th, 2010 | No Comments
Yes, that’s right, New York Yankees starting Shortstop, Derek Jeter (#2), has been announced as Major League Baseball’s most marketable player – by far. Jeter received 80% of the first-place votes. You’d think after hitting 36 years-old and a decade and a half of playing for the Yankees, he wouldn’t have the same “impression” or “impact” in and outside of the MLB, but he does, and once again, by far. How does he do it? Well, by consistently being one of best shortstops of all-time, respecting his money and fame, conducting himself as a...

Pettitte has a Grade 1 Groin Strain

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 07 18th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Andy Pettitte came back from his MRI, diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain to his left groin. Grade 1 strain is the least severe diagnosis. Andy felt discomfort in the 3rd inning, when the count was 3-1 to Rays batter Kelly Shoppach. Yankees catcher Jorge Posada motioned to trainers, on his way to the mound. Pettitte tossed one warm-up pitch, had a look of discomfort, and that was it for Andy. This is what Pettitte had to say about his injury: “Usually I sit here and say I can pitch through anything. But I was hurt. I was hurt pretty bad,” Pettitte said. “I hope that I feel great ...

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played.
