Yes, that’s right, New York Yankees starting Shortstop, Derek Jeter (#2), has been announced as Major League Baseball’s most marketable player – by far. Jeter received 80% of the first-place votes. You’d think after hitting 36 years-old and a decade and a half of playing for the Yankees, he wouldn’t have the same “impression” or “impact” in and outside of the MLB, but he does, and once again, by far.
How does he do it? Well, by consistently being one of best shortstops of all-time, respecting his money and fame, conducting himself as a professional and a gentleman, keeping his private life private, staying out of trouble, and by always having a beautiful women on his arm. His lovable, admirable character and impeccable swagger definitely (and literally) pays off. Derek Jeter is currently endorsed by 15 corporate sponsors including Nike ($100 million), Gatorade, Gillette, Ford, Avon, Delta, Fleet Bank, XM Radio, Visa, and many more. Jeter earns more than $200 million playing baseball, $100 million from Nike itself, and some other pocket-change ($8.5 million a year) from other endorsements. Yes, that much. SportsBusiness Daily states, “He’s the best face of the best brand in baseball.” SportsBusiness Daily also said it’s the third time in 7 years Jeter has won its highest marketing honor in its annual survey of top marketing and sports executives. Forbes ranked Derek Jeter as the nation’s 64th richest star in its Celebrity 100 list with an annual income of $30 million. With that said, Derek Jeter is still – by far – the man. Congratulations Jeet!
