With Andy Pettitte’s recent groin injury, that placed him on the 15-Day Disabled List, Joe Girardi announces that long-man/spot starter, Sergio Mitre, will be starting for Pettitte (for more information about Andy Pettitte’s injury, click here).
Mitre has also been on the disabled list since June 15th (strained oblique muscle) and made his final Triple-A rehab start on Tuesday (where he has been looking decent). Also, With the July 31st Trade deadline just around the corner, Brian Cashman made it pretty clear that he is comfortable starting Sergio Mitre and is currently not looking to trade for a starting pitcher, but rather, a veteran long-baller and/or an addition to the Yankees bullpen.

He’s no Andy Pettite, but he’s definitely our best bet to win (I’d cry if Joba or Park were selected instead). Let’s hope our Offense backs Mitre up!
