The Passing Of A Legend: Bob Sheppard

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 07 13th, 2010 | 1 Comment
It’s funny how life works. Change is always inevitable, and one day, even the most constant of ideas or people will no longer be constant. In the span of one week – even shorter in fact, two of the strongest and most consistent figures in New York, two figures synonymous with the Yankees franchise itself, have left us. In one week, we, as humble members of the Yankees fan base, have lost our boss, and we’ve lost our soul. In this particular post, I want to take a few minutes to talk about the soul of the franchise, the voice of the Yankees, Bob Sheppard, who we lost over...

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 07 10th, 2010 | No Comments
Just when you though there was no Yankee in the HR derby, think again!! Swisher and Chris Young of the Diamondbacks, are the latest additions to the Derby, according to Chad Jennings I guess the Bombers are not worried about Swisher’s swing, as they are of Cano’s!! The last Yankee to compete in the HR derby was Jason Giambi, back in 2003!! Here are Giambi’s stats from the 2003 HR derby at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago Illinois. First Roud–12 Hr’s Semi-Final Round–11 Hr’s Total 23 Hr’s Longest Hr was 446 feet!! 3rd Overall Looking forward to...

Cliff Lee Trade In The Works

Posted by Brian Capozzi in MLB, NY Yankees on 07 9th, 2010 | 3 Comments
The folks over at LoHud have a live chat going where fans are discussing the Cliff Lee trade. The trade is not official yet, but both the Mariners and Yankees are extremely close to finishing this deal which would send Cliff Lee to the Bronx, and send catcher Jesus Montero, second baseman David Adams, and a possible 3rd prospect to Seattle. This is all speculative right now, and can change as it gets closer. Stay tuned. You can join the live chat over at LoHud by clicking on the following link: LoHud Live Chat: Cliff Lee Trade Pinstripe Alley has also started dissecting the possible trade...

Swisher Salutes (Week 12 – 6/21 to 6/27)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 07 9th, 2010 | No Comments
Swisher Salutes you, Alex Rodriguez, for finally carrying the team on your shoulders for a week. Alex, it took far too long, but you are finally the BronxBombersBeat Yankees Player of the Week for Week 12 of the 2010 season. Ask any casual Yankees fan how A-Rod is doing this season, and you’re sure to hear the words average and disappointing at least a few times. Just look at this list for the season. The two seemingly most important names in the Yankees lineup had yet to lead the team for any one week. However, through the halfway point of the season, (the July 4th game against the Jays...

Series Recap – Oakland Athletics vs. Yankees

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 07 9th, 2010 | No Comments
BREAKING NEWS! The Yankees SWEPT a road series! All kidding aside, this was a great series for the Yankees. While the Tampa Bay Rays were dismantling the Red Sox on the east coast, the Yankees were taking care of business out west. By the time the series ended, the Rays took possession of 2nd place, while the Yankees remained in first place. While the Yankees offense continued to roll on all cylinders, the pitching has been absolutely stellar. All three starters earned victories in the series, while both starters and relievers allowed only 4 runs in 27 IP. They allowed an average of just...

Nick Swisher is going to the All-Star Game in Anaheim

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 07 8th, 2010 | 2 Comments
Hey Yankee faithfuls, guess who’s going to Anaheim? Nick Swisher is!! Getting over 9 millions votes online, thanks to all the Great Yankee Fans around the World!! What i think sealed the deal, was when Swisher hit his 14th HR and was a triple away from the cycle against the Oakland A’s last night, and Kevin Youkilis went 0-5 vs the Rays!! The last time a Swisher was named to the All-Star game was back in 1976. Steve Swisher, “Nicks father,”  who was a catcher for the Chicago Cubs at the time was the only other Swisher voted into an All-Star game!! Congrats to Nick ...

Pitching Matchups – Yankees vs Mariners

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 07 8th, 2010 | No Comments
After last nights sweep of the Oakland A’s, the Yankees head north to Seattle to face the Mariners. This is the last series before the 2010 All-Star game in Anaheim. The last time the two teams met, was back in June, at Yankee Stadium. The Mariners took 2-3 from the Bombers, due to great pitching performances from Cliff Lee and Felix Hernandez. Both Lee and Hernandez pitched complete games allowing 4 runs, 10 hits and 13 strikeouts!! And yes Yankee faithfuls–we are facing Lee and Hernandez again!!! The Yankees are going to counter-attack with their three top pitchers, with a...

Swisher Salutes (Week 11 – 6/14 to 6/20)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 07 8th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Swisher Salutes you, C.C. Sabathia, for taking back the ace spot in the rotation. The big man is coming up big in the summer months. C.C., you are the BronxBombersBeat Yankees Player of the Week for Week 11 of the 2010 season. Let me start by apologizing to any readers for the lack of Swisher Salutes articles. I’d like to think it was because Swish was too busy tearin’ up the American League – but really it had more to do with my inability to sit down and start writing. However, C.C. has started winning, and the league is once again taking notice. The same goes for this site. I won’t...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
