It was 3 years ago today, that Alex Rodriguez hit his 500th HR off of Kyle Davies of the Kansas City Royals and now you can add Shaun Marcum, of the Toronto Blue Jays, to number 600!! Marcum was the pitcher on the mound who surrender up A-Rod’s 6ooth Home Run.
It was the bottom of the 1st inning with Jeter on first, it was a 2-0 count, with 2-outs. And with one pitch, which Rodriguez drove it deep into center fie
ld and over the 408 mark, and into the netting protecting Monument Park, making Alex the 7th and youngest member of the Prestigious 600 Home Run Club.
This is what A-Rod had to say about becoming the youngest player ever to reach the 600 mark:
“I certainly felt really good. We needed a win today. These guys had played really good against us the last couple of days, and today was good to give Phil [Hughes] a little breather and to finally get 600 out of the way.
“I was probably just trying to get it over with and not really enjoy the moment and stay in the present. I was probably just trying to do a little bit too much. I had a lot of support from my teammates — they were very patient. The fans here in New York were extremely patient. It reminds me of the place I’ve been the last two years — talk little and try to do the talking with my bat. And the last week and a half or so, I’ve been doing the exact opposite. I’ve been talking a lot with the media and doing very little with the bat. So I’m glad that’s over.”
