C.C. Sabathia isn’t just having another one of his usual seasons in 2010… he is having by far the best season of his career. Prior to the 2010 season, Sabathia high-water mark for wins in one season is 19. Through August 24th, with about 6 starts remaining, C.C. is sitting at 17 wins. If all goes well for Sabathia, and he doesn’t cool down, he could easily end the season with 21 wins, capping off what could very well be another Cy Young award for him. He does however, have some very strong competition in David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays. It may very well go down to the last start for each hurler.
While Sabathia has had a fantastic almost two seasons with the Yankees, one of the most incredible stats he has earned is a 17-2 record at Yankees Stadium from the start of the 2009 season through August 24, 2010. When your ace can consistently win in your home ballpark, good things are bound to happen. The Yankees won their 27th World Championship in 2009 with C.C. winning the ALCS MVP award. The goal of 2010 is the same as it is every year… to enter the off-season as World Champions. The Yankees are currently tied for 1st place with the Rays (78-48). Unless something drastic happens, the team who finishes in 2nd place in the American League East will play in October. I strongly believe that Sabathia’s dominant performances at home will help power the Yankees into October. Just take a look below at Sabathia’s stats over the last two seasons at the Cathedral in the Bronx.
| Year | Wins | Losses |
ERA | IP |
ER | K |
| 2009 | 7 | 2 | 3.17 | 105.0 | 37 | 83 |
