According to ESPN.com Insider, Andy Pettitte is feeling very optimistic after throwing what he consired to be an extremely successful 35-pitch bullpen session on Sunday. He could be back in the Yankees rotation in about two weeks. While the Yankees remain tied for first place with the Tampa Bay Rays, the return of Andy Pettitte can only help them emerge to the top of the division. While Ivan Nova has be an unexpected surprise in his first 2 Major League starts, and C.C. Sabathia continues to pitch like the former Cy Young Award winner he is, the Yankees need more depth. A.J. Burnett and Javier Vazquez have been inconsistent all year, and Phil Hughes has cooled down since starting the season as one of the American League’s best pitchers.
If ESPN and Pettitte are correct, and he is able to come back in two weeks, I expect this to boost the team into October.
