Posted by Colin MacNeil in 2010 Postseason, NY Yankees on 09 29th, 2010 | 3 Comments
The New York Yankees, finally clinched a playoff berth last night at the Rogers Center in Toronto, versus the Toronto Blue Jays, and the “official” kick-off to Mission 28!! Yankee faithfuls came up the with name, after the Yankees won their 27 World Series last fall, when the Bombers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. Mission 28 (World Series Championships) started when pitchers and catchers reported for spring training at the George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, back in February, and the saying has been used throughout the regular season quite often!! Friends of...

The Yankees Are Officially Playing in October!

Posted by Brian Capozzi in 2010 Postseason, NY Yankees on 09 28th, 2010 | No Comments
Earlier this evening, the Yankees clinched a playoff spot for the second straight season by defeating the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 6-1. With this win, the Yankees improved their overall season record to 94-64. Yankees ace C.C. Sabathia was his normal brilliant self by playing the stopper and leading the Yanks to October. El Capitan, Derek Jeter, had a great night with two singles, three runs scored and an RBI, while Alex Rodriguez had two RBIs on one hit and Mark Teixeira had an RBI as well on one-hit. Now, getting back to the star of the show, as I have already stated, Sabathia was...

Red Sox Are Out of the Postseason Race

Posted by Brian Capozzi in AL East News, Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 09 16th, 2010 | No Comments
Well… mathematically, they are not, but they have a huge mountain to climb to make the postseason. For all Yankees fans out there, the idea of NOT seeing the hated Red Sox in the postseason is reassuring, and actually quite enjoyable. With the Yankees and Red Sox each having 16 games left on the season, the likelihood of them overtaking the Yankees (who are currently sitting in second place) is very slim. The Yankees are 88-58 while the Red Sox are 82-64. The two team will meet 6 more times this season, 3 times at Fenway, and 3 times at the cathedral in the Bronx. Despite the Yankees...

Tonight’s lineup – Yankees vs Rangers (09/10/10)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 09 10th, 2010 | No Comments
Jorge Posada, who has been cleared to play after tests for a concussion, after taking a foul tip on Tuesday, is not in tonight’s lineup. “Posada underwent testing by a neurology specialist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital during Wednesday’s game, telling manager Joe Girardi that he felt “foggy” after taking a foul tip on Tuesday. Those exams came back negative”. I’m sure the Yankees are just giving Posada an extra-day off to clear the “foggy” head. Hughes Skipped As Innings Limit Approaches

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 09 8th, 2010 | No Comments
According to a report on ESPNNewYork.com by Wallace Matthews, Phil Hughes will be skipped in the rotation this weekend when the Yankees visit the Rangers in Arlington, TX. So far this season, Hughes has thrown 155 1/3 innings, while it is believed that he is on a 175 innings limit, which Yankees officials have yet to confirm. “I had a feeling this was coming,” a mildly disappointed Hughes said at his locker before Wednesday afternoon’s Yankees-Orioles game. “I wasn’t 100 percent sold it was coming but I knew it was a possibility, so it’s not really a...

Tonight’s lineup – Orioles vs Yankees

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 09 7th, 2010 | No Comments
According to Chad Jennings, Alex Rodriguez is out of tonight’s lineup: Joe Girardi said he’s strictly playing it safe with Alex Rodriguez. He hasn’t seen anything to cause alarm, but given the fact there were no rehab games to ease Rodriguez in, Girardi didn’t feel comfortable playing him four games in a row. He decided to give him today off, and Rodriguez might get another day in either Texas or Tampa. Also, C.C. Sabathia will be going for his 20th win tonight, which would be the first time in his career. Sabathia has been pitching in the Big Leagues for the past 12...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played.
