Yankees 2011 Dates to Remember

Posted by Brian Capozzi in MLB, NY Yankees on 10 25th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Well… obviously the 2010 season didn’t pan out the way Yankees fans anticipated, but  there is no point in dwelling on the past, when the future awaits! I am shocked that I hadn’t noticed that the 2011 tentative schedule was released a couple weeks ago. The Yankees start the 2011 season at home in Yankee Stadium against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, March 31 and end the season on the road in St. Petersburg against the Rays on September 28. Notice how the regular season does not enter October? This is part of Commissioner Bud Selig’s promise to baseball fans that...

Marte, who was in the Yankees’ clubhouse with his left arm in a sling, said Sunday that he had surgery to repair a labrum tear in his shoulder. Posted by Colin MacNeil in 2010 Postseason, NY Yankees on 10 18th, 2010 | No Comments
According to Chad Jennings, the Yankees plan a moment of silence for Freddy “Sez” Schuman. “To celebrate the life of Freddy “Sez” Schuman, the Yankees will ask for  a moment of silence before tonight’s ALCS Game 3. The Yankees will also have some of Schuman’s memorabilia on display inside  Gate 4 prior to the game. Some of Schuman’s clothes and signs will be on display, along with his pan and spoon, which fans will be able to bang together.” “The items will remain on display throughout the postseason, and they will eventually become part of the New...

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees on 10 17th, 2010 | 2 Comments
It is with great sadness, that we have lost one of the Greatest Yankees fan, Feddy Schuman has died today at the age of 82. If you have been to Yankee Stadium, you’ve seen Freddy “Sez” Schuman carrying a frying pan with a shamrock painted on it, which he said “Brings ‘em luck.” Fans were encouraged to bang on the pot with a spoon to make noise. The pot made a distinctive sound that echoed throughout the stadium and could be heard in the background during TV broadcasts. Schuman also carries a number of colorful hand-painted signs adorned with messages to...

Pitching Rotation Set For ALCS

Posted by Colin MacNeil in 2010 Postseason, NY Yankees on 10 13th, 2010 | No Comments
The Yankees are going with a four-man rotation this year, unlike last year, when they went with a three-man rotation in the American League Championship Series. The Bombers have decided to go this route for the ALCS, so they won’t have to use Sabathia, Pettitte and Hughes on short rest. A.J. Burnett will be the fourth pitcher added to the rotation. Here’s and interesting stat about Burnett pitching against the heart of the Rangers batting order: There is only one Rangers regular with better than a .250 batting average against Burnett is David Murphy. As a team, the Rangers have a...

Damaso Marte To Go Under The Knife

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Injuries, NY Yankees on 10 12th, 2010 | No Comments
According to a report from ESPNNewYork.com, it appears that Yankees lefty specialist Damaso Marte may need surgery to repair his injured shoulder that landed him on the disabled list in July. According to Yankees GM Brian Cashman: He’s attempted to come back but it just hasn’t worked out. We’ll have to go the more aggressive route. That could involve surgery, and most likely will. The Yankees have been using Boone Logan  as the main lefty out of the bullpen and if Marte misses time in ’11, Logan will likely return to the same role. Cashman could look to minor...

Posted by Brian Capozzi in 2010 Postseason, NY Yankees on 10 11th, 2010 | 1 Comment
The New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies have locked up their respective spots in the American League Championship Series and the National League Championship Series, but there are still four teams fighting for the final spot in each series. The Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers will battle it out tomorrow night in St. Petersburg, bringing two of the best pitchers in the game to the mound for each team in Cliff Lee and David Price. The winner of the game will take on the Yankees in either Arlington or St. Pete on Friday, October 15th. The San Francisco Giants beat the Atlanta Braves on...

Burnett Will Pitch In ALCS

Posted by Colin MacNeil in 2010 Postseason, NY Yankees on 10 11th, 2010 | 3 Comments
The Yankees have decided to go with a four-man rotation, instead of using their top three starters (Sabathia, Pettitte and Hughes) on short rest. General manager Brian Cashman said today that the Bombers are going to utilize a fourth starter which would be A.J. Burnett. “We’re preparing to go with a four-man rotation and see where that takes us. In this round, we have to prove we’re deeper,” Cashman said. “I’ve seen A.J. Burnett succeed. I’ve seen him struggle. It’s just another question to be answered.” “I do have confidence in...

Yankees Advance To ALCS

Posted by Colin MacNeil in 2010 Postseason, MLB, NY Yankees on 10 10th, 2010 | No Comments
After last night’s sweep of the Minnesota Twins, the New York Yankees are heading back to the American League Championship Series, for the 41st time. The Yankees will have to wait and see who their opponent will be, either the Texas Rangers or the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rangers lead the best-of-five series 2-1. Last night’s win was lead by Phil Hughes, who pitched seven scoreless innings, and gave-up only 4 hits, as the Bombers won the game 6-1. Pretty good for his first post-season start. This is what Hughes had to say about is outing: “Once I got through that first hitter, I...

The Best of the Bronx Bombers and John Sterling

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 10 9th, 2010 | 3 Comments
If you haven’t seen this video yet, it’s about time that you do. MLB.com put together a compilation of Yankees home runs during the year, with John Sterling infamous home run call played to music. In my mind, this is one of the best videos I have seen in awhile. Whether you like John Sterling or not, you can’t help but appreciate the creativity that surrounds this video. The video starts with a bomb by Derek Jeter early in season, and ends with Alex Rodriguez’ 600th home run. Mixed in are a couple back-to-back, and belly-to-bellies, with feelin’ a little...

Yankees vs Twins – ALDS Game 2 Recap (The Pettitte and Berkman Show)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in 2010 Postseason, NY Yankees on 10 8th, 2010 | No Comments
YANKEES WIN! THE-E-E-E-E YANKEES WIN!!! Last night, the Yankees beat the Twins by a score of 5-2. If anyone was worried about Andrew Eugene Pettitte as the Yankees limped into October, you can wipe those worries away. Upon re-joining the club in mid-September after a groin injury sidelined him for almost two months, Pettitte did not appear to be the same pitcher we saw in the first half of the season in his two start prior to the start of the postseason. I guess he only needed 2 mediocre MLB starts before finding his rhythm and momentum that allowed him to throw 7 fantastic inning yesterday...

ALDS Game 2 Lineup – Yankees vs Twins

Posted by Colin MacNeil in 2010 Postseason, NY Yankees on 10 7th, 2010 | No Comments
Andy Pettitte will be taking the mound tonight, for Game 2. Pettitte has the most post-season wins with 18. You can see Pettitte’s post-season record by clicking here. Here’s what Andy had to say about having command of his pitches, courtesy of Chad Jennings: “Obviously the experience isn’t going to help you as far as if you can’t find it, your stuff or whatever,” he said. “But just for me, I know emotionally, whatever happens I am mentally not going to get out of the game. You know what I’m saying? So I think that the experience will be able to help me as far as...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
