Tonight’s Lineup – Yankees vs Orioles (05/19/11)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in Baltimore Orioles, NY Yankees on 05 19th, 2011 | No Comments
After last night’s 4-1 win, in extra-innings, the New York Yankees (22-19) look to sweep the Orioles in this two-game series. The Yankees are 5-0 so far this season against the Orioles. Big surprise for tonight’s game: Jorge Posada will get the start today at first base, and hit seventh. On the mound tonight for the Bombers is C.C. Sabathia. His last outing was against the Boston Red Sox where he went 6 2/3 innings and gave up six earned runs. Sabathia boasts a 9-1 record and 3.01 ERA in 11 career starts at Baltimore. New York Yankees: (22-19) Derek Jeter SS Curtis Granderson...

Yankees win 4-1 in 15, Pitching was the Real Winner

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Baltimore Orioles, NY Yankees on 05 19th, 2011 | 1 Comment
If the Yankees pitching staff was not as solid as they were Wednesday evening, the Yankees would not have had the opportunity to win the game last night. The offense and defense for the Yankees have been beyond awful, and the fact that Bartolo Colon, Mariano Rivera, Luis Ayala, Boone Logan, and Hector Noesi allowed only 1-run through 15 innings of baseball is nothing shrot of amazing. Boone Logan got the Yankees out of a critical jam in the 11th inning, and Hector Noesi threw 4 shutout inning. Granted Mariano blew the save in the bottom of the 9th, the offense had PLENTY of opporunities...

Yanks Win in Walk-Off Fashion, Hughes Still Struggling

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Baltimore Orioles, NY Yankees on 04 15th, 2011 | 1 Comment
From his first start of the season, it has been very painful watching Phil Hughes stand on the rubber, 60′ 6″ away from home plate. His fastball has been sub-par, and he has not had any command whatsoever in any of three starts. In my mind, he has been atrocious. The only highlight from Hughes last night was that he hit 92 MPH one time last night, while still only averaging 89 MPH for the entire 4 1/3 innings. Truthfully, the Yankees are lucky to have been able to pull off the victory last night. Thanks in part to an amazing offense (which included Derek Jeter), the Yankees were...

Baltimore Orioles Contact Former Yankees Skipper

Posted by Brian Capozzi in AL East News, Baltimore Orioles on 06 17th, 2010 | No Comments
ESPN.com Insider’s Rumor Central is reporting that former Yankees manager Buck Showalter has been contacted by the Baltimore Orioles about their open managerial position. For those of you who are too young to remember who Buck Showalter was, he managed the Yankees from 1992-1995, compiling an overall record of 313-268 leading the team to a first place finish in the strike-shortened 1994 season, as well as a 2nd place in 1995 (the first ever wild card) only to lose to the Seattle Mariners in five games. After his time with the Yankees, he spent 3 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks...

One Swing Leads to Yankees Winn

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Baltimore Orioles, NY Yankees on 05 4th, 2010 | No Comments
Randy Winn did not come to the Yankees expecting to fit into the typical Bronx Bomber form. He did not come here to mash bombs into the upper deck. Randy Winn came to the Yankees to help the team win on a daily basis whenever he is called upon. With Curtis Granderson on the disabled list, it is inevitable that Winn and Marcus Thames will be splitting time in left field as Brett Gardner temporarily transitions himself into the center field role until Granderson is ready to go. Winn got the nod in yesterday’s start against the righty throwing Jeremy Guthrie, and in his first at-bat, it...

Sabathia Loves The Birds

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Baltimore Orioles, NY Yankees on 04 29th, 2010 | No Comments
On Wednesday, C.C. Sabathia continued his dominance over the Orioles in the Yankees 8-3 win. Though slightly struggling with his command throughout the game, C.C. allowed three runs on 11 hits over 7 2/3 innings in Baltimore. In 15 career starts against the Orioles, Sabathia is 10-1 with a 2.62 ERA. This is by far the best record he has against any team in the American League East. This is good news for Yankees fans as Sabathia is slated to start against the Orioles again in his next start on Monday, May 3rd in the Bronx. The lone loss against the Orioles for Sabathia came on Opening Day in...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
