Pitching Matchups – Yankees vs Mariners

Posted by Colin MacNeil in Boston Red Sox, MLB, NY Yankees on 09 12th, 2011 | No Comments
New York is set to take on the Seattle Mariners, in Seattle, for a three-game series. The last time these two teams met was back in July, where the Yankees took 2 of 3. This will be the last trip to the West Coast for New York, unless the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim find a way to make it into the post-season. The Yankees lead the Red Sox by 3.5 games, in the American League East. The Magic Number is 14. Tonight RHP Phil Hughes (4-5, 6.41) vs. RHP Felix Hernandez (14-11, 3.15) 10:10 p.m., YES Network Tuesday RHP A.J. Burnett (9-11, 5.27) vs. LHP Charlie Furbush (3-8 4.84) 10:10 p.m., YES...

Yankees Embarrass Themselves After Being Swept by the Red Sox Again!

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 06 10th, 2011 | 1 Comment
Since getting swept by the Red Sox for the second time in a month isn’t bad enough, the Yankees managed to get swept in a very embarrassing way. Please know that I am never going to count the Yankees out, especially over a bad 3-game stretch, but seriously, heads need to roll with how sluggish and pathetic the team played. While I am very upset with the team getting swept, the thing that is bothering me even more is the way the Yankees managed to lose. The pitching was awful throughout the series, Cervelli was awful behind the plate in the two games he was back there by making 3...

It’s Deja Vu All Over Again – Yankees Can’t Finish the Comeback

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 06 9th, 2011 | No Comments
I have absolutely no idea where to begin except to express my frustration with how the Yankees have been playing in the series against the Red Sox. Apparently the Yankees starters enjoy digging the team into a massive hole before the offense even gets a chance to strike first.  Yesterday it was A.J. Burnett, the day before that it was Freddy Garcia. By the time the 3rd out in the top of the 1st inning came, the Red Sox took a 3-0 lead courtesy of an Adrian Gonzalez RBI and yet another David Ortiz 2-run bomb. A 4th run was added by the Sox in the top of the second inning, and by the time the...

Yankees Can’t Finish the Comeback

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 06 8th, 2011 | 4 Comments
Sorry folks for my lack of contributions lately as I have been extremely busy with work, traveling, and the arrival of the newest addition to the family, my nephew Andrew Robert! Welcome to the world buddy… you will be rooting for the Yankees before you know it, I’ll make sure you do! As if the 3-game sweep in early May wasn’t enough for the Boston Red Sox, they decided that the first inning, of the first game in June would be a good way to continue. After plating 3-runs in the top of the 1st inning, Freddy Garcia and the Yankees found themselves in an early hole. The Yanks...

Tonight’s Lineup – Red Sox vs Yankees (05/14/11)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 05 14th, 2011 | No Comments
The New York Yankees (20-16) are hoping to end a three-game skid tonight with a win against the Boston Red Sox (18-20). The Yankees will send their Ace, C.C. Sabathia to the mound. Boston will counter with Josh Beckett. The last time Sabathia faced the Red Sox was back on April 10th where he allowed one run on nine hits and a season-high four walks in the 4-0 loss. Russell Martin and Jorge Posada will flip-flop in the batting order tonight. Martin will be batting 6th and Posada will be batting 9th. Posada’s batting average is .165 New York Yankees: (20-16) 1. Derek Jeter SS 2. Curtis...

Pitching Matchups – Red Sox vs Yankees

Posted by Colin MacNeil in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 05 13th, 2011 | No Comments
The best Rivalry in all of sports is about to commence tonight at the Cathedral in the Bronx. The Boston Red Sox are in the Bronx for a three-game series. The last time these two teams met was back in April at Fenway Park. Boston won the series taking two of three. Joe Girardi is hoping that this series against the Red Sox can jump-start the Yankees who have dropped two straight and six of nine. “Maybe it’s what we need,” Girardi said. “Maybe we need the Red Sox to come in. Everything seems to get turned up, the coverage, the intensity. The games seem to take on a new flavor. Each...

Red Sox Are Out of the Postseason Race

Posted by Brian Capozzi in AL East News, Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 09 16th, 2010 | No Comments
Well… mathematically, they are not, but they have a huge mountain to climb to make the postseason. For all Yankees fans out there, the idea of NOT seeing the hated Red Sox in the postseason is reassuring, and actually quite enjoyable. With the Yankees and Red Sox each having 16 games left on the season, the likelihood of them overtaking the Yankees (who are currently sitting in second place) is very slim. The Yankees are 88-58 while the Red Sox are 82-64. The two team will meet 6 more times this season, 3 times at Fenway, and 3 times at the cathedral in the Bronx. Despite the Yankees...

It’s Going, Going, Gone…Gone…Gone!

Mark Teixeira puts a dent in his April batting slump slamming 3 home runs  during a Saturday, May 8th game against the Boston Red Sox. Adding fuel to his May firestorm, Teixeira went 4-for-6 with 5 RBI’s. To top it all, he became the only Yankee to hit 3 home runs in a single game against the Bosox, since Lou Gehrig did over 80 years ago (June 23, 1927). Teixeira is batting nearly .400 since the beginning of May, completely dismissing his awful April BA of .136. Along with Cervelli’s consistent contribution, Yanks destroy Bosox 14-3. Yankees at Red Sox – Round 2 (Preview)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 05 7th, 2010 | No Comments
After about a month of the 2010 baseball season, the New York Yankees will make their way up to Boston for the second time this season to face their long-time rival Boston Red Sox. As there was during the opening series of the season, there is still a lot of hype surrounding this weekends series. Though the Red Sox are one game over .500 at 15-14, they have all of a sudden started to show signs of life. The Sox are 7-3 in the last ten games, and are currently riding a four game winning streak into the series. The Yankees have had a hot start to this season. Their record stands at 19-8, and...

Joe West Needs to Shut His Pie Hole and Go Away

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 04 10th, 2010 | No Comments
In the words of Ryan Dunne in Summer Catch, “Get off your knees blue, your blowing the game!” I am sick and tired of hearing about Joe West’s remarks the other day in regards to the length of the Yankees-Red Sox games. I mean seriously… your JOB is to stand on a baseball field and umpire for 3-4 hours, with the OCCASIONAL 4+ hour game. Would Joe West rather work at a desk from 9-5? If so, I would be more than happy to teach him a thing or 2 about what I do. The guy has some nerve! If you aren’t aware of the situation, Joe West had the juevos to call the Yankees...

Game Recap: Bullpen Gets the Joba Done (4/6/2010)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 04 7th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Well, it took the Yankees 2 games against the Red Sox in 2010 before they won their first game against their biggest rival as the Yanks beat the Sox by a score of 6-4. As we all know, last season it took the Yankees until the 9th game against the hated Red Sox before they actually won a game against their rival. I would love to sit here and say that this is an incredible sign, but in all reality, it is not. The Yankees should not have taken that long to beat them last year, and sure, beating them in the 2nd game of the season seems great, but that’s exactly what it is, the second game...

Beckett Signs Through 2014 (UPDATE)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in AL East News, Boston Red Sox on 04 6th, 2010 | No Comments
According to an AP report, a baseball official says Josh Beckett has signed a $68-year contract extension with the Boston Red Sox that runs through the end of the 2014 season. The official spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the deal was not scheduled to be announced until later Monday. More to come as this unfolds… UPDATE: The signing was finalized yesterday afternoon during a press conference in Boston. Beckett was quoted on RedSox.com as saying: “This is a very special place and I think that everyone who has had a chance to play here knows that....

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
