Where Did Jose Bau-beast-a Come From?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in AL East News, Toronto Blue Jays on 06 5th, 2010 | 1 Comment
I was recently reading Buster Olney’s blog on ESPN.com where he explains the reasoning behind where Jose Bautista’s power came from and what he did to become the threat that he is this season. Coming into the 2010 campaign, I can bet that not a single baseball fan out there would have expected that the MLB home run leader 56 games into the season would be Bautista. Through these 56 games, Bautista’s line looks like this .259/.380/.627. He has blasted a major league leading 18 home runs, and knocked in 45 RBIs (Note: all stats are through 6/4/10). If you look at his stats...

It’s Going, Going, Gone…Gone…Gone!

Posted by Tom Ortiz in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 05 10th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Mark Teixeira puts a dent in his April batting slump slamming 3 home runs  during a Saturday, May 8th game against the Boston Red Sox. Adding fuel to his May firestorm, Teixeira went 4-for-6 with 5 RBI’s. To top it all, he became the only Yankee to hit 3 home runs in a single game against the Bosox, since Lou Gehrig did over 80 years ago (June 23, 1927). Teixeira is batting nearly .400 since the beginning of May, completely dismissing his awful April BA of .136. Along with Cervelli’s consistent contribution, Yanks destroy Bosox 14-3. Yankees at Red Sox – Round 2 (Preview)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 05 7th, 2010 | No Comments
After about a month of the 2010 baseball season, the New York Yankees will make their way up to Boston for the second time this season to face their long-time rival Boston Red Sox. As there was during the opening series of the season, there is still a lot of hype surrounding this weekends series. Though the Red Sox are one game over .500 at 15-14, they have all of a sudden started to show signs of life. The Sox are 7-3 in the last ten games, and are currently riding a four game winning streak into the series. The Yankees have had a hot start to this season. Their record stands at 19-8, and...

One Swing Leads to Yankees Winn

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Baltimore Orioles, NY Yankees on 05 4th, 2010 | No Comments
Randy Winn did not come to the Yankees expecting to fit into the typical Bronx Bomber form. He did not come here to mash bombs into the upper deck. Randy Winn came to the Yankees to help the team win on a daily basis whenever he is called upon. With Curtis Granderson on the disabled list, it is inevitable that Winn and Marcus Thames will be splitting time in left field as Brett Gardner temporarily transitions himself into the center field role until Granderson is ready to go. Winn got the nod in yesterday’s start against the righty throwing Jeremy Guthrie, and in his first at-bat, it...

Sabathia Loves The Birds

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Baltimore Orioles, NY Yankees on 04 29th, 2010 | No Comments
On Wednesday, C.C. Sabathia continued his dominance over the Orioles in the Yankees 8-3 win. Though slightly struggling with his command throughout the game, C.C. allowed three runs on 11 hits over 7 2/3 innings in Baltimore. In 15 career starts against the Orioles, Sabathia is 10-1 with a 2.62 ERA. This is by far the best record he has against any team in the American League East. This is good news for Yankees fans as Sabathia is slated to start against the Orioles again in his next start on Monday, May 3rd in the Bronx. The lone loss against the Orioles for Sabathia came on Opening Day in...

Game Recap: Sabathia Flirts with History (4/10/2010)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays on 04 10th, 2010 | 1 Comment
C.C. Sabathia has had his share of moments and memories while donning the pinstripes, but nothing comes close to the game he pitched today. For 7 2/3 innings, Sabathia held a very dangerous Tampa Bay Rays team hitless. Sadly, after 7 2/3 innings his bid of a no-hitter ended when Kelly Shoppach dropped a 2-out single into shallow left field. Despite the fact that the no-hitter did not happen, the Yankees rolled to a very solid 10-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Sabathia threw 111 pitches for 7 2/3 innings before giving way to Dave Robertson for 1 1/3 innings. Robertson would allow the Rays to...

Joe West Needs to Shut His Pie Hole and Go Away

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 04 10th, 2010 | No Comments
In the words of Ryan Dunne in Summer Catch, “Get off your knees blue, your blowing the game!” I am sick and tired of hearing about Joe West’s remarks the other day in regards to the length of the Yankees-Red Sox games. I mean seriously… your JOB is to stand on a baseball field and umpire for 3-4 hours, with the OCCASIONAL 4+ hour game. Would Joe West rather work at a desk from 9-5? If so, I would be more than happy to teach him a thing or 2 about what I do. The guy has some nerve! If you aren’t aware of the situation, Joe West had the juevos to call the Yankees...

Pitching Matchups for the Tampa Bay Series

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays on 04 9th, 2010 | No Comments
After an exciting win two nights ago at Fenway Park, the Yankees are heading to Tampa Bay to face the Rays for a 3 game weekend series starting tonight Friday, April 9th at 7:10 EDT. Friday: RHP Javier Vazquez (15-10, 2.87 ERA in 2009) vs. LHP David Price (10-7, 4.42 ERA in 2009) Saturday: LHP CC Sabathia (0-0, 8.44 ERA) vs. RHP Wade Davis (2-2, 3.72 ERA in 2009) Sunday: RHP A.J. Burnett (0-0, 5.40 ERA) vs. RHP James Shields (0-0, 4.50 ERA) Javier Vazquez can’t wait to get out there and pitch: “It feels like its been like 10 days since I pitched. I’m just getting ready to go out...

Game Recap: Bullpen Gets the Joba Done (4/6/2010)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 04 7th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Well, it took the Yankees 2 games against the Red Sox in 2010 before they won their first game against their biggest rival as the Yanks beat the Sox by a score of 6-4. As we all know, last season it took the Yankees until the 9th game against the hated Red Sox before they actually won a game against their rival. I would love to sit here and say that this is an incredible sign, but in all reality, it is not. The Yankees should not have taken that long to beat them last year, and sure, beating them in the 2nd game of the season seems great, but that’s exactly what it is, the second game...

Beckett Signs Through 2014 (UPDATE)

Posted by Brian Capozzi in AL East News, Boston Red Sox on 04 6th, 2010 | No Comments
According to an AP report, a baseball official says Josh Beckett has signed a $68-year contract extension with the Boston Red Sox that runs through the end of the 2014 season. The official spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the deal was not scheduled to be announced until later Monday. More to come as this unfolds… UPDATE: The signing was finalized yesterday afternoon during a press conference in Boston. Beckett was quoted on RedSox.com as saying: “This is a very special place and I think that everyone who has had a chance to play here knows that....

AL East Spring Training TV Schedule

Posted by admin in AL East News on 03 2nd, 2010 | No Comments
Last week I posted the Yankees spring training broadcast schedule.  I thought that since this is a Yankees blog, fans may want to get an early look at some AL East competition.  Below, I have compiled a schedule of other AL East team’s spring training games that are on national television.  The schedule does not include the games played against the Yankees because those are already available in the Yankees schedule on our website. There are 14 games in total (12 on MLB Network and 2 on ESPN).  Three of the games on MLB Network will be televised on a tape delay, those games are on...

And the Winner is…

Posted by admin in AL East News, NY Yankees on 02 25th, 2010 | No Comments
… well, who knows? There is always much speculation about how MLB standings will shape up come early October when the regular season comes to a close. Speculations are, usally simply that, speculations, until they are taken to the next level.  Baseball Prospectus has developed a system to supposedly realistically simulate entire MLB seasons using the Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm (PECOTA) that they have developed.  This system predicts each team’s wins and losses based on individual player performance compiled into a batting order, depth chart,...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
