Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays on 09 16th, 2011 | No Comments
UPDATE: According to Mark Feinsand, via twitter, Brett Cecil has been scratched for tonight’s game. Dustin McGowan will get the start. The Yankees are in Toronto this weekend, for a three-game series. This is the last time that New York will be north of the border. The last time these two teams met was back in the Bronx, where the Yankees swept the Blue Jays. After this weekend series in Toronto, the Yankees will head home, where they will play the Twins on Monday for a makeup game that was postponed back on April 6. The Yankees are 10-5 against the Blue Jays and have outscored them...

The New York Yankees (53-35) are on a eight-game road trip, starting in Toronto and ending in Tampa, to start the second-half of the season. The last time New York and Toronto faced each other was back in May at the Cathedral in the Bronx. The Yankees took 2 of 3 from the Jays. Through eight-games this year, the Yankees have won five against the Blue Jays. The Bombers got some bullpen help today by signing left-hander, J.C. Romero, to a minor league deal. Tonight RHP Bartolo Colon (6-4, 3.20) vs. LHP Jo-Jo Reyes (4-7, 4.57) 7:07 p.m., YES Network and MLB Network Friday RHP Freddy Garcia...

The New York Yankees (25-20) have won their last two home games and look to make it three in a row tonight while they take on the Toronto Blue Jays (23-23) for a three-game series. This will be the second series at the Cathedral in the Bronx for the Blue Jays. The last time the Jays were in the Bronx was the last weekend in April and lost 2 of 3. Chris Dickerson is getting his second straight start in right field replacing Nick Swisher who has a .214 batting average. On the mound tonight for the Jays will be right-hander Carlos Villanueva. This will be Villanueva’s first start since...

The Toronto Blue Jays (23-23) are in the Bronx to take on the New York Yankees (25-20) for a three-game series. The last time these two teams met was back in April where the Yankees took 2 of 3 from the Blue Jays. This series will have the top two home run hitters in the majors – Jose Bautista (18) and Curtis Granderson (16). The pitchers are going to have their hands full with these two power hitters. Should be a good series. Tonight RHP Bartolo Colon (2-2, 3.16) vs. RHP Carlos Villanueva (1-0, 1.48) 7:05 p.m., YES Network Tuesday LHP CC Sabathia (4-3, 3.06) vs. LHP Ricky Romero (4-4,...

Tonight’s Lineup – Yankees vs Blue Jays (04/20/11)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays on 04 20th, 2011 | No Comments
Alex Rodriguez is back in the lineup and playing third. A-Rod took himself out of the game Saturday afternoon with lower back/oblique tightness. Brett Gardner gets the night-off and Andruw Jones will be playing left. On the mound tonight for the Bombers is Bartolo Colon (0-1, 3.97). This will be Colon’s first start as a Yankee and his first since July, 2009. This season, Bartolo has been coming out of the bullpen as the Yankees’ long reliever. Bartolo Colon is taking over Phil Hughes spot in the rotation, who’s on the disable list. After tonight’s game the New York...

Tonight’s Lineup – Yankees vs Blue Jays (04/19/11)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays on 04 19th, 2011 | 1 Comment
The New York Yankees(9-5) are in Toronto to take Blue Jays(7-9) for the first time this season. In 2010, the Yankees went 8-10 against the Blue Jays — the first time they lost the season series since 2000 — and dropped six of nine in Toronto. Don’t look now but Alex Rodriguez is not in tonight’s lineup. Joe Girardi did say that they (Yankees) are going to take the A-Rod injury, day-by-day. Rodriguez did have a precautionary MRI exam, which did comeback clean. New York Yankees: (9-5) 1. Derek Jeter SS 2. Curtis Granderson CF 3. Mark Teixeira 1B 4. Robinson Cano 2B 5....

The New York Yankees(9-5) are in Toronto to take on the Blue Jays(7-9) in a rare two-game series. The Yankees are coming off a series win against the Texas Rangers, where they took two-out-of-three and the Blue Jays lost the last three games to the struggling Red Sox. On the mound tonight for the Bombers is A.J. Burnett who will be looking for his fourth straight victory. Bartolo Colon will be making his first start in a Yankees uniform Wednesday night. Colon, who’s filling the rotation spot of Phil Hughes (right shoulder inflammation). Tonight RHP A.J. Burnett (3-0, 4.67) vs. RHP Kyle...

Could Jose Bautista Become A Yankee?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in AL East News, NY Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays on 07 8th, 2010 | 1 Comment
There is no evidence of that yet, but Buster Olney of ESPN believes it would be a good move! According to a report on ESPN Insider’s MLB Rumor Central, Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista has been placed on the trading block. Being that the Jays are no longer in contention within the AL East, Toronto might become the most aggressive sellers at the trade deadline. The team lead all of baseball in home runs, yet they are just a notch above the Pirates and Astros for worst team batting average. It will be interesting to see who the Blue Jays deal as the month of July continues...

Series Recap: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Yankees

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays on 07 5th, 2010 | No Comments
On Friday, the Yankees began a 3-game homestand against one of their AL-East rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays. The game was a nail-biter until the top of the 11th inning. Until that point, the score was tied. The Blue Jays exploded in the 11th for 5-runs off a very shaky Yankee bullpen to cap off a 6-1 comeback win. A.J. Burnett looked extremely strong in his first start since the return of Dave Eiland. Jason Frasor got the win the the Blue Jays, while David Robertson got the loss for the Yankees. On Saturday afternoon the Yankees found themselves down 2-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd...

Where Did Jose Bau-beast-a Come From?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in AL East News, Toronto Blue Jays on 06 5th, 2010 | 1 Comment
I was recently reading Buster Olney’s blog on ESPN.com where he explains the reasoning behind where Jose Bautista’s power came from and what he did to become the threat that he is this season. Coming into the 2010 campaign, I can bet that not a single baseball fan out there would have expected that the MLB home run leader 56 games into the season would be Bautista. Through these 56 games, Bautista’s line looks like this .259/.380/.627. He has blasted a major league leading 18 home runs, and knocked in 45 RBIs (Note: all stats are through 6/4/10). If you look at his stats...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
