Mitre Is Back With The Yankees

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees on 06 29th, 2011 | No Comments
According to Chad Jennings, Sergio Mitre is back in the bullpen, pitching for the New York Yankees. “The Yankees have acquired Sergio Mitre from the Brewers in exchange for Cash. He’ll be with the team tomorrow”. “Buddy Carlyle has been designated for assignment”. The Milwaukee Brewers designated Mitre for assignment on Monday. Sergio was traded to Milwaukee back in March for left-fielder Chis Dickerson. While pitching for the Brewers, Mitre has posted a 3.27 ERA in 33 innings. The two years he pitched for the Yankees (09/10), Sergio Mitre had pitched in 105.2...

Tonight’s Lineup – Brewers vs Yankees (06/29/11)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 06 29th, 2011 | No Comments
After thumping the Milwaukee Brewers 12-2 last night, the Yankees look to take the series with a win tonight. Also, the Bombers chased former Cy Young Award winner, Zack Greinke, out of the game in the second inning. Greinke threw 56 pitches and gave up seven runs in his short outing. With last night’s win and a Red Sox loss, the Yankees are in first place by 1.5 games in the AL East. Mark Teixeira smashed his 24th home run of the season last night, tying him with Jose Bautista for most home runs in all of baseball. On the mound tonight for the Yankees is A.J. Burnett. During his last...

Review: 61* on Blu-Ray

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 06 27th, 2011 | 1 Comment
HBO recently gave me an incredible opportunity to review the Billy Crystal directed baseball movie 61* which was released on HBO in 2001. If you have not had the chance to see this movie yet, I need to ask you, what are you waiting for? From one diehard Yankee fan to another, this is by far my favorite baseball movie. Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris were in a heated race throughout the entire 1961 season while chasing the home run record of 60 set by Babe Ruth in 1927. Thomas Jane plays Mickey Mantle and does a phenomenal job playing my favorite Yankee. From the late night drinking in New York...

Pitching Matchups – Yankees vs Cubs

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees on 06 17th, 2011 | No Comments
The New York Yankees (39-28) are on the road for a six-game interleague play. The first three-game series will be played at The Friendly Confines in Chicago. The last time the Yankees were at Wrigley Field, was back in ’03. The Cubbies took 2 of 3 from the Bombers. I hope the Yankee pitchers get extra-time in the batting cage and on running the bases drills, cause they are pitching in the National League for the next six days, which means, no designated hitter. This is a disadvantage for an American League team coming into a National League park, cause they lose that...

Do The Yankees Need Derek Jeter To Win?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 06 16th, 2011 | 4 Comments
If the stats this season say anything about whether or not the Yankees NEED to have Captain Jeter in the line-up in order to win, the answer is they do not. Even though Jeter has missed only 4 games through June 15th, in those games, the Yankees are 3-1, while averaging 9.75 runs per game. They have outscored their opponents 39-17 and I should add that those opponents are legit teams as well: Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, and Chicago White Sox. Could it be possible that Jeter’s inability to hit in the clutch, and the numerous double plays he has hit into be the reason why the Yankees...

Finally! The Offense Explodes!

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 06 11th, 2011 | No Comments
While one win doesn’t exactly take away the sour taste left in our mouths after the Yankees-Red Sox series, an offense blowout can definitely help. Backed by a solid outing from Ivan Nova, the Yankees beat the Indians last evening in the Bronx by a score of 11-7. A 4-run 9th inning by the Indians is the reason why the score seems closer then it was. In the bottom of the 1st inning, patience… that’s right, patience is what led the Yankees to a 3-0 lead. Jeter led off the game with a walk, followed by a Granderson strikeout, and 2 walks to Teixeira and A-Rod. Cano stepped to...

Yankees Embarrass Themselves After Being Swept by the Red Sox Again!

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 06 10th, 2011 | 1 Comment
Since getting swept by the Red Sox for the second time in a month isn’t bad enough, the Yankees managed to get swept in a very embarrassing way. Please know that I am never going to count the Yankees out, especially over a bad 3-game stretch, but seriously, heads need to roll with how sluggish and pathetic the team played. While I am very upset with the team getting swept, the thing that is bothering me even more is the way the Yankees managed to lose. The pitching was awful throughout the series, Cervelli was awful behind the plate in the two games he was back there by making 3...

Yankees Joba Chamberlain could be facing Tommy John surgery

Posted by George Brew in Injuries, NY Yankees on 06 10th, 2011 | No Comments
What started out as a 15 Day DL stint for Joba Chamberlain with a strained flexor muscle in his right arm, which also included soreness near the inside of the right elbow, that has gone through 4 years of “Joba Rules”  has turned itself into a torn ligament, a possible trip to Alabama to see Dr. James Andrews, and season ending Tommy John surgery. Joba Chamberlain celebrates a big out in 2007 Joba Chamberlain who in 2007, joined the Yankees with a rock star persona and 100 MPH fastball, was hurt by the Yankees “Joba Rules” and the Yankees constant indecision on...

It’s Deja Vu All Over Again – Yankees Can’t Finish the Comeback

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 06 9th, 2011 | No Comments
I have absolutely no idea where to begin except to express my frustration with how the Yankees have been playing in the series against the Red Sox. Apparently the Yankees starters enjoy digging the team into a massive hole before the offense even gets a chance to strike first.  Yesterday it was A.J. Burnett, the day before that it was Freddy Garcia. By the time the 3rd out in the top of the 1st inning came, the Red Sox took a 3-0 lead courtesy of an Adrian Gonzalez RBI and yet another David Ortiz 2-run bomb. A 4th run was added by the Sox in the top of the second inning, and by the time the...

Yankees Can’t Finish the Comeback

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees on 06 8th, 2011 | 4 Comments
Sorry folks for my lack of contributions lately as I have been extremely busy with work, traveling, and the arrival of the newest addition to the family, my nephew Andrew Robert! Welcome to the world buddy… you will be rooting for the Yankees before you know it, I’ll make sure you do! As if the 3-game sweep in early May wasn’t enough for the Boston Red Sox, they decided that the first inning, of the first game in June would be a good way to continue. After plating 3-runs in the top of the 1st inning, Freddy Garcia and the Yankees found themselves in an early hole. The Yanks...

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 06 3rd, 2011 | 1 Comment
Ivan Nova, who’s coming off a loss this past Saturday, lasting just 3 2/3 innings and giving up four earned runs against the Mariners, looks to rebound tonight versus the Angels. On the mound for the Angels tonight is Jered Weaver. In May, Weaver went 0-4, but has maintained a 2.10 ERA. Batting eighth for the Yankees tonight, is Jorge Posada. New York Yankees: (31-23) 1. Derek Jeter SS 2. Curtis Granderson CF 3. Mark Teixeira 1B 4. Alex Rodriguez 3B 5. Robinson Cano 2B 6. Russell Martin C 7. Nick Swisher RF 8. Jorge Posada DH 9. Today’s Lineup – Yankees vs Mariners (05/29/11)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 05 29th, 2011 | No Comments
After last night’s loss in extra-innings, the Yankees are on the verge of getting swept in this three-game series against the Mariners. New York has already been swept in a three-game series earlier this month at the hands of the Boston Red Sox. On the mound and hoping to stop this two-game skid is Yankees Ace – C.C. Sabathia. His last outing was Tuesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays, where Sabathia pitched a complete game allowing four runs and eight hits and pounded the strike zone, issuing one walk and using 103 pitches (77 strikes) to finish the game. After...

Tough Road Ahead

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 05 28th, 2011 | No Comments
The New York Yankees are on a nine-game West Coast road trip, which started in Seattle last night and ends in Anaheim. The Yankees are going to be facing some really good pitching during this road trip starting tonight with reigning Cy Young Award winner – Felix Hernandez (5-4, 3.01). Tomorrow, New York will face left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas (3-2, 3.86). Oakland Series, 5/30 – 6/1 Monday: RHP Trevor Cahill (6-2, 2.02) Tuesday: LHP Brett Anderson (2-4, 3.18) Wednesday: LHP Gio Gonzalez (5-2, 2.20) The Athletics don’t have an off day until the end of their series against the...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
