Phil Hughes Placed On The DL

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees, SWB Yankees on 04 15th, 2011 | 4 Comments
I don’t think too many Yankee fans are shocked that Phil Hughes has been placed on the 15-day disable list. You sort of knew something like this was going to happen. Hughes’ fastball has lacked velocity this season. He is normally in the low-to-mid-90s. He has been clocked consistently in the high-80s this season. “Joe Girardi just announced that Phil Hughes is going on the disabled list. The Yankees do not believe he’s hurt, they just think he’s going through a dead arm period. He is not joining the Triple-A rotation. The Yankees want him to do a lot of long toss but...

Jorge Posada To Have Surgery

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees, SWB Yankees on 11 10th, 2010 | No Comments
Just when your job as the starting catcher for the New York Yankees is on the line, which he held since 1998, Jorge Posada is to have surgery today on his left knee to repair a torn meniscus, as reported in the NYTimes.com. Though the surgery is not serious, but for a catcher (Jorge Posada) who is turning 40 next year, could take longer to heal, than a player half his age and being in the position Posada is in, the inevitable is near. About the same time that Jorge was having the examination, he met with General Manager Brian Cashman, to discuss where Posada stands with the Yankees next...

Jorge Posada Wants To Be Starting Catcher Next Year

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees, SWB Yankees on 11 8th, 2010 | No Comments
Jorge Posada is not willing to concede his role as starting catcher for the Bombers, according to Christian Red of the NYDailyNews.com. This is what Posada had to say about being the starting catcher for next season. “I’m going to prepare for (the starting catching job). I love catching, love being behind the plate. I take alot of pride – that’s my position.” This all started back on Sunday, when the front-office said they are considering, bringing up Jesus Montero from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Yankees are willing to give Montero a chance to earn the...

Jesus Montero Will Have A Chance To Catch For Yankees

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees, SWB Yankees on 11 6th, 2010 | No Comments
Jesus Montero will have a chance to earn a spot as the everyday catcher for the Bombers, according to Mark Feinsand of NYDailyNews.com: Montero will likely be given the chance to earn the starting job this coming spring training, turning over a position that Jorge Posada held since 1998. If Jesus comes through and will the starting spot during spring training, Posada would likely be moved to the full-time designated hitter and sharing the back-up catcher with Francisco Cervelli. Last year with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Montero batted .289 with 21 home runs and 75 RBI in 123...

Lance Berkman is on the DL

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees, SWB Yankees on 08 19th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Just days after spraining his right ankle, Berkman finds himself on the disable list according to Tim Britton. Lance injured is right ankle, when he stepped on Royals pitcher, Bryan Bullington’s foot on a play at first base, this past Sunday. This is what Joe Girardi had to say about Berkman going on the DL: “It hadn’t progressed quite as quickly as we wanted it to,” manager Joe Girardi said. “We’re somewhat short on infielders without him. We thought it was in our best interest to DL him, and that way, he’s not rushing back.” The Yankees...

Looks like that Marcus Thames will be going on the 15 day-DL, with a  right hamstring strain. The Scranton-Times is reporting that… To open a spot on the 25-man big league roster for Huffman, the Yankees are expected to place outfielder Marcus Thames on the 15-day disabled list with a hamstring strain. Thames was pulled from Saturday’s game against Houston, and after the game, he underwent an MRI. The MRI was negative, ruling out a more serious injury. Former Minor League Pitcher of the Year Flirts with No-No

Posted by Brian Capozzi in SWB Yankees on 04 28th, 2010 | No Comments
Jason Hirsh of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees has had a rough two years. He has struggled with a variety of injuries and is working hard to become the pitcher that once earned him the Minor League Pitcher of the Year award. All the hard work showed yesterday as Hirsh took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against Louisville. The no-hit bid ended with 2 outs in the eighth when Hirsh gave up a home run to Corky Miller. The Yankees won the game by a score of 2-1. After the game, Jason Hirsh was quoted as saying: “Tonight was just one of those nights when everything clicked. [Catcher...

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played.
