Andy Pettitte Goes Four Scoreless For Trenton Thunder

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees, Trenton Thunder on 09 9th, 2010 | No Comments
Andy Pettitte went four scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, and struck out four. According to Mike Ashmore, who writes a daily blog for the Trenton Thunder, said Pettitte threw 51 pitchs, 37 for strikes. Here is how Pettitte’s rehab outing went, inning-by-inning: “1st Inning: 7 pitches/5 strikes.  A groundout, a single by Adeiny Hechevarria and a DP grounder by Eric Thames. 2nd Inning: 17 pitches/12 strikes. 24 pitches/17 strikes total. Pettitte struck out Adam Calderon to end the inning. 3rd Inning: 16 pitches/12 strikes.  40 pitches/29 strikes total. Matt Liuzza singled...

Yankees Minor League Leaders

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Charleston RiverDogs, SWB Yankees, Tampa Yankees, Trenton Thunder on 05 5th, 2010 | 1 Comment
As the season goes on, it is inevitable that there will be promotions within the Yankee minor league farm system, as well as promotions by a few to the show. I have decided that every couple weeks, I will keep you, the reader, updated with how the top prospects are performing statistically. Please be aware that just because the player is listed below, does not necessarily mean that the player is a top prospect in the farm system. When looking at the Yankees minor league affiliates page, they have listed out the top players statistically across all minor league levels. I have decided to share...

Minor Leaguer with a Rare Gift – VIDEO

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Tampa Yankees, Trenton Thunder on 03 30th, 2010 | No Comments
Patrick Venditte, minor league pitcher for the New York Yankees, has an unbelievable gift. No, he is not a switch-hitter… no, he does not hit balls over buildings… and no, he doesn’t throw a 100+ MPH fastball. Patrick Venditte has such a rare gift, that only 3 players in the 19th century had this particular gift and used it in a professional game, and 1 other player since then in the modern era. This rare gift that Patrick Venditte has is that he is a switch-pitcher. As defined on Wikipedia, a switch-pitcher is an ambidextrous pitcher who is able to pitch with both the...

The Overly Supernatural Backstop

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees, Trenton Thunder on 03 2nd, 2010 | No Comments
Last week, our own Tyler Lakin did a piece on the outstanding offensive prowess of Yankees catching prospect Jesus Montero. While no one doubts the 20 year old Venezuelan’s ability to absolutely mash, I remain skeptical that he will remain the Yankees long term catching prospect. No matter how many balls he deposits over the scoreboard at Steinbrenner field in Tampa, he is just too big to continue as a catcher. Montero stands at 6’4 and weighs in at 225 lbs. Montero, already large for a catcher, is predicted to keep growing into his 20’s. When I attended the Futures Game during the...

What Would Jesus Montero Do?

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees, Trenton Thunder on 02 25th, 2010 | No Comments
Well, hopefully he would hit the ball very far, and hopefully he would do that very often. Montero has shown in the minors that he is a force to be reckoned with. However, the real question behind what Montero will do is will he be able to play catcher, being an ideal heir to Jorge Posada’s role, or will he be too big physically to actually play catcher? If he does outgrow the position, it isn’t a huge problem, since he is going to be a dynamite hitter either way, he’ll just have to be a designated hitter most likely (why should Teixeira move away from first base?...

YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
