Big Hit For Hip-Hip Jorge

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 08 19th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Congratulations to Jorge Posada! In the 6th inning of today’s game versus the Detroit Tigers, Jorge didn’t just hit an RBI single… he passed Thurman Munson to go into 17th place with 1,559 career hits. The reason why this is such a significant milestone for Posada is because, as noted by John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman, he idolizes Thurman Munson. The single also extended the Yankees lead in the game to 4-2 in the bottom of the 6th...

Tonight’s lineup – Yankees vs Tigers (08/18/10)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 08 18th, 2010 | No Comments
Alex Rodriguez is not in tonight’s lineup due to a low-level strain in his left calf. Ramiro Pena will replace A-Rod at the hot-corner. This is what Rodriguez had to say about the injury: “I have no idea right now,” Rodriguez said when asked how long he would miss. “I feel surprisingly better than I thought. Hopefully, it’s just a day-to-day thing.” “I’m not concerned,” Rodriguez said when asked if the injury could derail his offensive momentum. “I’m going to be fine. I feel myself, our team, overall, we’re going to...

John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman: Always Good for a Laugh

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 08 18th, 2010 | 1 Comment
Thanks to one of my Twitter followers (@BurrowDweller73), I was able to listen to one of the funniest impersonations of John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. While I wanted to keep this gem for myself, I figured that all Yankee fans would get a kick out of this. The “video”, which is actually a radio clip, was recorded in October 2007 while the Yankees were playing the Indians in the ALDS. The recording is 7+ minutes long, but well worth the time. The impersonations are perfect, right down to the accents and the Sterling-ism’s. If this does not make you laugh, then I have no idea...

Andy Pettitte scheduled to have MRI

Posted by Colin MacNeil in NY Yankees on 08 17th, 2010 | 1 Comment
According to Bryan Hoch, Pettitte is scheduled to have a MRI today. Pettitte threw approximately 40 pitches at Yankee Stadium before the Bombers’ game against the Tigers, and though he completed the session, Pettitte still has some hesitation to throw with full intensity. Here is what Andy Pettitte had to say about his bullpen session on Tuesday: “I’m feeling good. I’m feeling better,” Pettitte said. “But when I reach back 100 percent, like I’m trying to get a batter out in a game, the groin area grabs.” Every Bronx Bombers fan are holding...

A-Bombs Away

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 08 15th, 2010 | No Comments
Last night, at Kauffman Stadium, there was a volley of A-Bombs landing in the stands. Alex Rodriguez had back-to-back-to-back Home Runs, giving the Yankees a 8-3 win, over the Kansas City Royals. Last night’s Barrage of HR’s, marked the 56th multihomer game of Rodriguez’s career, but just his fourth three-homer game, having last achieved that feat on April 26, 2005, against the Angels. This is what A-Rod has to say about his monstrous outing: “Tonight was a treat,” Rodriguez said. “Obviously it was a fun night and a night I’ll never forget. You...

Swisher was out of the lineup yesterday, due too extreme heat in Kansas City, which the heat-index reached over 100 degrees. Girardi took Swisher out in the 9th inning, on Thursday night, because of the heat, and didn’t want Swisher to suffer from heat exhaustion. Tonight’s lineup – Rangers vs Yankees (08/11/10)

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 08 11th, 2010 | No Comments
After last night’s disappointing defeat, no thanks to David Murphy, who hit a pitch off of Mariano Rivera, in the bottom of the 10th. Look for the Yankees to bounce back tonight, with Robinson Cano and Jorge Posada back in the lineup tonight. Cliff Lee is 5-4 with a 4.72 ERA in 10 career starts against the Yankees, including a complete-game win on June 29, which was his only start vs the Yankees this year. Also, the Yankees saw Lee twice in the World Series, and they couldn’t beat him either time. Some Yankee faithfuls may say, that tonight’s game might be over, even before it...

Robinson Cano is out of tonight’s lineup due to the cold according to Chad Jennings: Robinson Cano said he’s out of today’s lineup because he’s been sick since yesterday. He called it a cold, and his voice is a little more scratchy than usual. He said he’s felt low on energy. Cano has taken some medicine and plans to take some batting practice in the cage, but he’s not sure whether he’ll be able to pinch hit. Also, according to Marc Carig/The Star-Ledger, Teixeira may miss the 6-game road trip with the Yankees, because Mark plans on being with his wife for the birth of...

Congratulations C.C. Sabathia

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 08 7th, 2010 | No Comments
With their 5-2 victory this afternoon/early evening against the Boston Red Sox, Yankees ace C.C. Sabathia earned the 150th win of his career. After allowing two runs in the 2nd inning, Sabathia can give thanks to a two-out, two-run 5th inning rally, and another run in the 6th inning, Sabathia was able to cruise the rest of the way to his 14th win of the season. Over eight inning pitched, he allowed two runs on six hits, to lower his season ERA to 3.14 on the season. At the end of the 2010 season, Sabathia’s 10th in his career, he could very well be a 300-win pitcher. It’s crazy to...
