Errors and Lack of Offense Cost Yankees Series

Posted by Brian Capozzi in NY Yankees on 05 6th, 2011 | No Comments
Despite a very solid outing by Yankees starter A.J. Burnett yesterday; an offense that has been non-existent over the past few games; mental lapses on the base paths; and three costly errors, the Yankees lost their 3rd game in a row against the Tigers by a score of 6-3… the teams first 3 game losing streak of the season. We can all sit here and point fingers at Eduardo Nunez, but the fact of the matter is that the Yankees offense has looked as dead as Phil Hughes’ arm. Not to poke fun at the Yankees starter, but the Yankees struggles at the plate go further than just the lack of...

Eric Chavez Breaks Bone In Foot

Posted by Brian Capozzi in Injuries, NY Yankees on 05 5th, 2011 | No Comments
Eric Chavez has been such a great addition to the Yankees as a utility guy off the bench, but as history has shown baseball fans, Chavez is extremely fragile. He has had his share of injuries throughout his career. It took until the 29th game of the season of the 2011 season for him to injure himself. While legging out a triple in today’s game against the Tigers in Detroit, Eric Chavez fractured the 5th metatarsal in his left foot after rounding 2nd base. According to CBSSports.com: Late in the game, the Yankees told reporter and the TV broadcast that Chavez had a small fracture in ...

On the mound tonight for the Yankees is veteran righty, Bartolo Colon, who will be facing his former team for the first time. Bartolo had 12 starts (3-6, 4.19) with the White Sox in 2009. Colon beat the Toronto Blue Jays in his last outing on April 20. Bartolo went 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball. The White Sox will have lefty – Mark Buehrle on the mound. He’s rarely pitched well against the Yankees, his career ERA against them is 6.68, and he’s allowed 10 runs in his last 12 2/3 innings overall. The Bombers are hoping to get a win tonight and end a two-game skid. During...

Pitching Matchups – White Sox vs Yankees

The Yankees split the two-game series in Toronto and then swept the Orioles in the shorten two-game series. AL East is Getting Back to Normal

Posted by Brian Capozzi in AL East News, NY Yankees on 04 25th, 2011 | 4 Comments
For those of you out there who really thought that the Red Sox would spend the entire season in the cellar, shame on you. Obviously all Yankees fans want the Red Sox to fail, but you have to give credit where credit is due, and that team is far too good to remain in the cellar. After spending a little more than half the first month in last place in the AL East, the Red Sox are slowly climbing the standings and currently find themselves in 3rd place in the AL East with a record of 10-11 as of April 25, 2011. The same can be said about the Tampa Bay Rays. With Longoria on the disabled list,...

Girardi: Soriano Has Some Tightness In His Lower Back

Posted by Colin MacNeil in MLB, NY Yankees on 04 24th, 2011 | 2 Comments
As many of you were wondering (including myself) during today’s game against the Orioles, why is Dave Robertson coming in for the eighth and not Girardi’s “Eighth Inning Man” Rafael Soriano. Well, we can finally put that question to rest; Soriano has some tightness in his lower back, says Girardi. He’ll be re-evaluated tomorrow to see if he can pitch. Hopefully he’s okay, because it’s unlikely Mo will be available on Monday after throwing 30-something pitches today. The Yankees rotation for the next four-games: Monday: A.J. Burnett (3-0, 4.37) Tuesday: Ivan...

Let’s try this again, shall we. Last night’s postponement was the 3rd for the Yankees this season and the 2nd with Baltimore. There is no date set for the makeup games against the Orioles. Taking the ball tonight for the Yankees is – Mr. Work Horse – Carsten Charles Sabathia . This will be Sabathia’s fifth start of the season, who has yet to post a victory. Sabathia was supposed to pitch on Friday night. New York Yankees: (10-6) 1. Derek Jeter SS 2. Curtis Granderson CF 3. Mark Teixeira 1B 4. Alex Rodriguez 3B 5. Robinson Cano 2B 6. Nick Swisher RF 7. YANKEE FACT

06/10/2011 - On May 8, 1925, the Yankees Everett Scott sat out a game against the St. Louis Brown, ending his Major League record of 1,307 consecutive games played. Just three weeks later, Scott's teammate Lou Gehrig began a streak of 2,130 straight games that would break Scott's record and stand for decades.
